Institutional Partnerships

Plan Proposed Institutes include six from Pune, two from Nagpur, one from Mumbai & Pandharpur each. As previous community advocate did not continue, these institutes were not approached in first 6 months. When new person took charge in December 2016, then onwards following partnerships were developed.

Institutional Partnerships developed Periodic meetings with Management members and faculty were conducted to develop understanding on Wikimedia projects. This resulted into orientation sessions and edit-a-thons. In all total 12 such programs were conducted. The institutes have included the Wikimedia activity in their annual academic schedule. The integration of Wikimedia projects with academic assignments has gathered momentum in these institutes. Exploring New Cities

Proposed The goal of this activity is to spread awareness about Marathi Wikipedia in new cities across Maharashtra and Karnataka, where internet penetration is high and active Marathi community is available. (at Least 3 cities Nagpur, Kolhapur, Bangalore)

Achieved Many new cities were covered in outreach activity. New partnerships were also developed. The institutes with academic courses in Marathi were selected on priority. Also it was observed that most of the presently active editors are from big cities like Pune & Mumbai, resulting into representation of urban issues & views. Whereas there is a need to focus on districts with predominantly rural population interested in growth of Marathi Wikipedia.Such places were covered in outreach programs. These new cities include - Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Aurangabad and Belagavi.

Capacity Building of Rural knowledge Centres

Vigyan Ashram at Pabal is established 30 years ago with a mission to build human resource in rural areas. It is a knowledge hub in the field of Appropriate technologies, technical education and natural resource management practices.
Sterlite Tech Foundation's Jeewan Jyoti Women Empowerment Centre, Ambawane and Jnana Prabodhini, Pune are the organisations working for Women's Empowerment in Velhe Block of Pune District Maharashtra. Jeewan Jyoti - Sterlite’s flagship initiative aims to address these issues by empowering the under privileged sections of society, especially rural women with equal learning opportunities and with professional training courses in their formative years; thereby providing them with sustainable income opportunities.
Focusing on these Rural knowledge centres resulted into new content related to villages, rural issues and agriculture practices. The girls have also created new articles on about 55 villages, 300 articles on birds and native tree species.
At Vigyan Ashram, a team of volunteers is trained in Wikimedia Commons and Wikisource process of uploading content. The future plan is to deploy this trained human resource in digitisation activity at various libraries and museums. The scanning of various old encyclopedias in Marathi is also proposed for Wikisource and Wiktionary project.

While broadcasting, we appealed listeners to do the operations on smartphone/tab/laptop/pc step by step. Promos were planned a week before to set the tone and gadgets. We got good response in the form of phone calls, emails and actual new editors on Wikipedia.

Connecting Eminent Personalities[edit]
