About me
Jambo! My name is Hussein, a Tech Security Engineer and currently a Computer Science teacher at Growing Purpose Schools in Zanzibar.
Beyond my professional work, I enjoy playing basketball and motorcycle racing. I also practice daily stretching and breathing exercises, which help me relax and appreciate the slow, peaceful passage of time.
My work
I began participating in the Wikimedia movement in 2020, when my friend Iddi Ninga introduced me to Wikipedia editing. From that moment, my life took a new direction.
In early 2023, I led the first Kiwix4Schools project in Dodoma, Tanzania. The experience strengthened my passion for digital access to knowledge, and I remain committed to bringing Kiwix and offline educational resources to more schools in need.
I am also a certified Kiwix4Schools trainer.
In addition to Wikipedia, I actively contribute to Wikimedia Commons, where you can explore some of my work.
I currently serve as an Administrator on the (Swahili) Wikipedia, so there’s a good chance we may have crossed paths before — hopefully not because I had to block you! (Just kidding… or am I? 😄)
Beyond editing and community contributions, I am serving as:
A member of the Funding Committee for Sub Saharan Africa (SSA)
A Workshop Trainer at Wikimedia Community Zanzibar
A member of the Technical Infrastructure Working Group in the EduWiki Hub.
Through these roles, I continue supporting open knowledge, community growth, and technology access across Africa.
