Regarding the global group local-bot
[edit]Hello. I have noticed the existence of this global group and the fact that it is automatically added to users who are in the local bot group. However, it is not automatically added to users who are in the local botadmin group. I have noticed that some bots on some wikis, precisely BotRiconferme on itwiki, and BlockBot-es on eswiki, have been given membership in the botadmin group, but not in the bot group, and therefore are not part of the global local-bot group. I came to ask, because it's just a couple of cases, maybe it should just be resolved by giving these accounts the bot flag rather than putting effort into adding the botadmin flag to those who trigger the automatic promotion to the global local-bot flag. What do you think about this?--Luigi Nakano

- Hello! The local
botadmingroup is configured on only a few wikis, and it's up to each community how to use it. On some wikis thebotadmingroup doesn't include all of the rights granted to thebotgroup, so I don't know if it would be correct to add these users to thebotgroup too. It would be fine from the technical point of view, so if the local community wants to do that, feel free to go ahead. - I also briefly reviewed how this group is used on the wikis than have it: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] and the permissions it confers: [7] and as far as I can tell, it's used in very different ways on different wikis. I'm not sure if it would be correct to add them to the global
local-botgroup, either. - Anyway, I think the current situation is okay. Is there some problem I'm unaware of that prompted this question? (If the non-bot "bot-admins" are running into rate limits, we could also add the accounts to the API high limit requestors global group.) Bartosz Dziewoński (WMF) (talk) 21:55, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- It was just a situation I was curious about, so I just thought it would be a good idea to ask, but no, there hasn't been any problem around this question. If things are fine the way they are, then there's nothing to fix. Regards.--Luigi Nakano
