be-x-old/be-tarask[edit]

Hi. A user recently reminded me that the Wikipedia in Belarussian taraškievica script has been moved to the be-tarask subdomain long ago. Pywikibot warns me about the redirect when I use the script for the List of Wikipedias by sample of articles, but if I change the language code to "be-tarask", it fails to find any article (score=0). I see that you still use "be-x-old" for the expanded sample as well, could you please try to find out what could be the issue? I have wiki matrices up-to-date in my Pywikibot installation. — Yerpo Eh? 07:23, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Yerpo: The WikiData in its inter-wiki section uses be_x_old, e.g. see d:Q104183. When one tries to register a new article for be-tarask (e.g. in d:Q103949), the identifier automatically becomes be_x_old. We should defer the script updates until WikiData, as a primary source of information, gets updated. Dcirovic (talk) 02:57, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, didn't notice that. — Yerpo Eh? 05:33, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Script for the list of Wikipedias by sample of articles[edit]

Sorry about nagging again, but I have problems with the script for making the List of Wikipedias by sample of articles. I recently installed Python 3.8 to make full use of Pywikibot, and I don't know enough Python to upgrade the script that was written for 2.7. Can you help (at least by running it today/tomorrow, or, ideally, by upgrading)? — Yerpo Eh? 15:11, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Yerpo: I did that upgrade a couple of years ago. I will run the script, update tables, and share the script for your future use. This could be done within next day or two. --Dcirovic (talk) 15:32, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks; I still don't understand how did it even run, being dependent on Pywikibot which is written for 3.x — Yerpo Eh? 18:14, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

List of Wikipedias by expanded sample of articles[edit]

Hi! Catalan Wikipedia community is participating in a challenge to create and complete articles from List of articles every Wikipedia should have/Expanded. I think it would be great if you could update weekly the List of Wikipedias by expanded sample of articles, so users could have an extra motivation as they could see the results of the challenge every week. Do you think it is possible? Thanks! --Davidpar (talk) 08:14, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Davidpar: You may better off with a more customized version of the 10K report. For example this page is a report designed for srwiki. It lists 10K articles and gives their current sizes not just on srwiki, and also on the languages from which users are most likely to translate content.
This report is generated using the same code as the global one, except that in the final stage data are differently formatted. Since it focuses on only 5 languages such a report gets generated in under 30 min, as opposed to ~7 h needed for the set of over 300 languages. The only limitation is that the amount of content in the table needs to be kept to minimum, so the table with 10K rows does not consume more than 1 MB, otherwise various display and performance problems would start to appear.
Should you be interested, a customized version for your language could be made. The header and the table heading would need to be translated or rewritten, and the language selection would need to be customized to the needs of your community. Once you have a script, you could run it as often as necessary. --Dcirovic (talk) 23:00, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Thanks for your answer. There are already similar pages in Catalan Wikipedia. Different users have expressed the need to have the most up-to-date data in the current table so that we can be constantly compared to other languages. I understand that it needs many hours to set up a list with more than 300 languages. Alternatively, I wanted to suggest you create a subpage - on ca.wiki or Meta - with the first 20 languages so that it can be updated more often than the current one. --Davidpar (talk) 19:06, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Davidpar: Perhaps the most straightforward solution to your request would be that people who already maintain custom reports on Catalan Wikipedia add one more report, which would be generated using a slightly adjusted version of: List of Wikipedias by expanded sample of articles/Source code. --Dcirovic (talk) 02:57, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Our plase in the List of Wikipedias by expanded sample of articles[edit]

The Bashkir Wikipedia community is working to improve the articles in the List of Wikipedias by expanded sample of articles. We are in 68th place. There were no changes this month, although we improved a few articles. We expect better results next month. Please note this when you update the table.--ZUFAr (talk) 04:52, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@ZUFAr: The summary list (List of Wikipedias by expanded sample of articles) is generated using a script, which does not give preferential treatment to any language. The scores are calculated using simple calculation that is outlined at the top of the list. --Dcirovic (talk) 15:53, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

List of articles every Wikipedia should have/Expanded[edit]

Hello, in Spanish Wikipedia we are interested in improving the articles that are part of the Expanded list of articles every Wikipedia should have, and we would like to have the list of articles that we are missing to complete. Would it be possible to have this list in some way? On the other hand, this list indicates that we are missing certain articles, however when entering in Wikidata element I see that they do exist in Spanish. Best. --Rodelar (talk) 12:09, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Rodelar: Hi. The Spanish Wikipedia is currently missing 158 articles. This list contains 200 smallest articles, starting with the missing ones. The number following the article name indicates the current article size. --Dcirovic (talk) 15:10, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dcirovic: thank you. I was referring to that list, in it there are articles that do exist in Spanish, although they appear there as not existing (the first one in the list for example). On the other hand, would it be possible to have a list of articles of less than 8k and between 8 and 16k?. --Rodelar (talk) 15:21, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rodelar:
In order for an article be considered a part of the "10K" list, it needs to be associated with predefined WikiData ID. The first article on the above list, "Fibonacci number", may exist on Spanish Wiki as one or more articles, however, none of them is currently associated with d:Q47577.
The source code that is being used to generate m:List of Wikipedias by expanded sample of articles is available from m:List_of_Wikipedias_by_expanded_sample_of_articles/Source_code. It could be adjusted to output customized reports, which could be published on local Wikipedias. Such customized pages are already being maintained by local users on several projects, eg. cawiki, srwiki, ... --Dcirovic (talk) 17:35, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What is the reference point for every month?[edit]

Hello Dcirovic! The article list is renewed every 16th of the month... but is the data representing the last month (i.e. feb 16-march 16) or is it taking the natural months? Thanks! -Theklan (talk) 09:36, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Theklan: The growth represent the previous month (i.e. Feb 16 - Mar 16). The remaining fields (the sizes, counts and score) represent cumulative states (i.e. from inception up to March 16). --Dcirovic (talk) 14:06, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Theklan (talk) 16:28, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Language weight[edit]

Hello! I updated the weight of two languages in the source code. If you could include it for the next month, it would be great! Thanks for your work! Theklan (talk) 16:01, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish articles with less than 16 kB[edit]

Hello Dcirovic, My pleasure to come in contact with you,

We are working in Spanish Wikipedia in order to complete the expanded 10000 list or articles. We note that in the Monthly updated table that you maintain currently there are in Spanish Wikipedia some 1499 articles with less than 16 kB.

Would it be to much trouble for you to please give us a little help and produce a list of these 1499 articles in Spanish wiki that are smaller than 16 kB (normalized)? it would be of great help.

Thank you very much, for attenting this message .

Best regards

Uruk from Spanish Wikipedia Uruk (talk) 21:17, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Uruk: The list you have requested is here. --Dcirovic (talk) 02:43, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your HELP !!
One question, I understand that the extension indicated in this Table you have produced corresponds to the kB extensions without applying the normalization factor (0,897) of Wiki in Spanish , I am correct in this understanding ?
@Dcirovic Uruk (talk) 07:04, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Uruk: The "es" column contains the relevant character counts (without HTML comments, etc) prior to the normalization correction. The article sizes tend to vary due to numerous minor changes over time, so if your objective is to produce a relatively robust set in terms of size, you could safely ignore the normalization factor. --Dcirovic (talk) 15:29, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Dcirovic, here again ;-)), Would it be possible, please, for you to upload in my page, as done one month ago, an updated list of the 10000 articles in spanish wikipedia ? Your help will much be appreciated. Best regards, --Uruk (talk) 09:08, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
