Geologie van België

Beste Geertivp,

Enige jaren geleden heb ik veel van de geologische eenheden van België van een artikel voorzien op de Nederlandse Wikipedia. Deze coverage is nog lang niet compleet, maar de meerderheid van de Belgische formaties heeft inmiddels een artikel(tje) met degelijke bronvermelding. Deze informatie zou een stuk beter tot zijn recht komen als er afbeeldingen van gesteentelagen, groeves, fossielen en ontsluitingen bij stonden.

Omdat ik me in een ander werelddeel bevind, is het helaas voor mij ondoenlijk locaties in België af te gaan om foto's te maken. Wat ik wel kan doen is helpen de beste locaties te identificeren (om te beginnen beschrijft de Geologische Dienst veel locaties in haar toelichting-boekjes bij kaartbladen - deze zijn vrij te lezen op hun website, in PDF-formaat).

Ik benader u omdat ik zag dat u actief bent bij Wikimedia België en bovendien aangemeld bent voor de 6th Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos Campaign (2025). Kunt u helpen beschikbare fotografen te vinden voor het verkrijgen van nieuw fotomateriaal?

Wat ik kan doen is een lijst opstellen van onderwerpen die een afbeelding kunnen gebruiken. Die lijst kan ook door de Geologische Dienst genoemde locaties bevatten, en links naar beschrijvingen in de toelichting-boekjes. Wat ik niet weet is waar die lijst het beste geplaatst kan worden en hoe eventuele fotografen erop geattendeerd worden. Woodwalker_talk 03:55, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

• Geologische plaatsen in België (WikiProject)
• Wikidata statements (voorbeeld)
• Geolocations (klik ook op Table of Image grid)

Dank voor de links! De onderwerpen komen niet altijd overeen met een bepaalde locatie. Soms zijn meerdere locaties mogelijk. Ik denk dat sommige onderwerpen ook het beste in musea en collecties worden gefotografeerd. Ik heb wat tijd nodig wat voorbeelden te bekijken. Al doende vielen me wat puntjes op:

• Misschien is het voor de vrijwilliger met camera wel handig wat uitleg te hebben voor fotograferen van geologische objecten en gesteente. De juiste lichtval is bijvoorbeeld van belang. Wellicht ook een tip op het gebied van schaal: fotografeert men de gehele ontsluiting of alleen een detail?
• De illustratieve waarde zal afhangen van hoeveel karakteristieke facetten op de foto staan. Als bv. een bepaalde zandlaag typisch fossiele schelpen bevat, is het handig als de foto die ook laat zien. Dus het is voor de fotograaf behulpzaam de details door te geven die voor de foto van belang zijn.
• Niet alle beschrijvingen van locaties door de Geologische Dienst zijn erg gedetailleerd. Sommige locaties zijn mogelijk sinds publicatie van de toelichting van de Geologische Dienst overgroeid, bedekt geraakt met zand, of door verwering onherkenbaar geworden. De fotograaf kan dus tegen een teleurstelling aanlopen. Dat is wel anders dan bij het fotograferen van kunst of monumenten...
• Harder gesteente is minder snel weg verweerd. Vermoedelijk zijn oudere gesteentes makkelijker te vinden dan jongere. Maar die komen vaker voor in Wallonië dan in Vlaanderen (verder weg bij Nederlandstalige vrijwilligers?).

Een willekeurig voorbeeld: het artikel nl:Formatie van Aalter heeft nog geen afbeelding. Dat zijn gewoon wat zandlagen, geen tot de verbeelding sprekend voorbeeld... Ze komen in de toelichtingen van kaartbladen 13 (Brugge), 21 (Tielt) en waarschijnlijk 14 (Lokeren) aan bod. Hier is bv. het toelichtingsboekje voor Brugge te vinden. De Formatie van Aalter wordt op p. 23 beschreven. Helaas zie ik daarbij alleen de "heuvel van Aalter" als typische locatie genoemd. Op de heuvel zouden dan inderdaad ergens zandige lagen zichtbaar moeten zijn. De toelichting noemt o.a. als typische details: een licht olijfgroenige kleur, schelpenlaagjes ertussen (bij soort genoemd - als de fotograaf die zou weten te herkennen), en een 50 cm dikke zandsteenbank. Een foto die duidelijk een of liever twee van die kenmerken toont zou het artikel goed kunnen aanvullen!

Hoe kan ik al deze informatie goed presenteren? De locatie, waar het onderwerp aan herkend wordt, de kenmerken die in de foto horen voor te komen, de link naar het boekje van de GD. Misschien kun je dit voorbeeld voor me uitwerken? Dan kan ik waarschijnlijk aan de hand van het voorbeeld andere onderwerpen van gelijke aard toevoegen.

Get started with the Lua interface to simplify the preparation of modules for translation in MetaWiki

Greetings!

The Language and Product Localization team has developed a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation in the MetaWiki platform. This means that module developers can now use the new Lua interface to load translatable strings, and the translators can translate them in the same translation interface that is used for templates and wiki pages.

This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation.

We invite you to watch our demo video and read more about translatable modules to understand how it works. Please give us your feedback on this talk page on how well the Lua interface addresses the challenges in your workflow and how useful it is in module localization tasks. You can also refer to Module:User Wikimedia project, which was recently converted to utilize these messages, for example usage.

Your feedback is important as it will help us evaluate and decide how to continue developing and improving this interface, extend it to other wikis, or change our approach.
