Your comments[edit]

Welcome to Meta and I just wondered, are your comments directed at me or at Ironholds...or both. I can't tell. Would it also be possible to fix the indent, your comments blended with mine so its hard to know who's is who's. Reguyla (talk) 18:57, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Reguyla: I just added a note to make it clear, thanks. Mario Castelán Castro (talk) 19:27, 5 March 2015 (UTC).Reply
Thanks I was just confused. Reguyla (talk) 19:34, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Reguyla: No problem. I'm glad that you expressed your concern in a friendly way and we reached a solution; that's how Wikipedia should work but I doubt that it ever does. The WMF interventionism just makes thing worser. Mario Castelán Castro (talk) 19:38, 5 March 2015 (UTC).Reply
I agree in both respects. Reguyla (talk) 19:40, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Reversions at the Inspire Campaign[edit]

Hello Mario. I just wanted to clarify what the rationale was for moving some discussions to a new page. The main purpose of Grants_talk:IdeaLab/Inspire is to discuss ideas that come up in the campaign, technical problems people may have, and issues specific to the campaign. Broader discussions on gender diversity are important to have, and there are many venues on the projects to have that conversation, including the "meta" page Siko created here. This is a standard practice on the projects - some discussions need to be relocated sometimes to keep conversations digestible. Nothing is being blanked, or censored - just that two different types of discussions are being split into separate pages for practical reasons. PEarley (WMF) (talk) 19:54, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Inspire[edit]

Hi Mario, I'd like to send you a kind caution about your engagement on the IdeaLab pages for the Inspire Campaign. I understand that you do not support this campaign, or the goal of increasing participation of women, or WMF providing funds to do so. That is totally fine to have your strong stance.

I want to clarify a misconception that you have: Inspire Grants are not "quotas" that require more women; nor are they "affirmative action" that somehow relaxes our policies to permit women to edit. It does not reduce our standards for women editors or compromise our neutrality. What it does, instead, is offer people with ideas funding to support experimental projects that will create a more inviting and hospitable editing environment for more people than we currently have.

If you don't like that idea, again, that's fine. However it is not ok to go around repeating the falsehood that this campaign is in anyway forcing women to edit or corrupting Wikipedia's standards to facilitate more women editing.

If you do want to share thoughts 'against' this campaign, there is a place for you to do that:

Grants talk:IdeaLab/Inspire/Meta

I'd also like you to review the Friendly Space Expectations for IdeaLab and the Inspire Campaign, because they might be slightly different than what you've encountered in other wiki environments.

Grants:IdeaLab/Friendly_space

Finally, I want to invite you to participate in a positive way by helping support the proposals that might have the greatest impact. Or, if you just hate this whole thing, then I'd encourage you to just leave others to their work. Gender diversity is not everyone's goal; however, there is something important about respecting that it is some people's goal, and it's quite ok for different groups to simultaneously pursue different goals in relative peace.

Keilana, I noticed that you posted the same message (with only the user name changed) on the talk pages of 6 users (Aldnonymous, Metallurgist, EditorASC, Jacedc, Teratornis and me) without even checking that each of us in fact made the errors you accused us of doing. In fact, I never claimed the contrary of:
  • Inspire Grants are not "quotas" that require more women;
  • nor are they "affirmative action" that somehow relaxes our policies to permit women to edit.
Regarding your claim:
It does not [...] compromise our neutrality.
I alredy posted my arguments based on policy. You are entitled to disagree, and to assert your viewpoint without arguments if you so want, but I don't feel compelled to put more of my time putting forward my arguments (that I have already exposed) in reply to accusations that you have made incorrectly, whereas spending a little of your time doing the most basic verification would have revealed that the aforesaid accusations are unfounded in my case. Note that the strings “affirmative action” and “quotas” (the words you quoted as if they were mine, or as scary quotes) don't appear in any of my messages in the relevant discussion; “affirmative action” isn't found at all.
Ironically, your message talks about spreading falsehoods, and that is what you did in the same message.

What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?[edit]

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!

Here’s how to participate:

Take care,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 03:34, 5 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Future IdeaLab Campaigns results[edit]

Last December, I invited you to help determine future ideaLab campaigns by submitting and voting on different possible topics. I'm happy to announce the results of your participation, and encourage you to review them and our next steps for implementing those campaigns this year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered time to participate and submit ideas.

With great thanks,

Open Call for Individual Engagement Grants[edit]

Greetings! The Individual Engagement Grants (IEG) program is accepting proposals until April 12th to fund new tools, research, outreach efforts, and other experiments that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers. Whether you need a small or large amount of funds (up to $30,000 USD), IEGs can support you and your team’s project development time in addition to project expenses such as materials, travel, and rental space.

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources 15:57, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
