Wikipedia article depth/Table change from 32px to 30px[edit]

Hi Vipz, on my video everything is regular but if 30px can cause problems, I restore 32px. --Antonio1952 (talk) 12:23, 24 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Is it really fair to call Serbo-Croatian as "Bosnian-Croatian-Montenegrin-Serbian (or shortly BCMS)"?[edit]

Per Glottolog sout1258 entry, aside from BCMS, Serbian-Croatian-Bosnian does also have

  • Chakavski (Chakavian)
    • Burgenland Croatian
    • Nuclear Chakavian
  • Shtokavski (Shtokavian)
    • New Shtokavian
      • Bunjevac
      • Eastern Bosnian Shtokavian
      • Eastern Herzegovinian Shtokavian (Eastern Herzegovinian dialect) (where includes B,C,M,S entries)
      • Karashevski
      • Kosovo-Resava
      • Prizren-South Morava
      • Slavonian Shtokavian
      • Smederevo-Vrsac
      • Sumadija-Vojvodina
      • Timok
      • Uzican
      • Zeta-Raska
    • Old Shtokavian

The BCMS varieties look much more specific to the Eastern Herzegovinian one, so far if calling Serbo-Croatian as just BCMS, isn't this panorama unfair for Chakavian or other Shtokavian dialects' speakers? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 02:04, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, thanks for contacting me @Liuxinyu970226. I'm not sure if I'll be able to satisfy your question, but I'll try. I have to say these are quite unusual questions, but I understand. First, this is quite a weird categorization Glottolog is pursuing, because Chakavian is as independent from Shtokavian as Kajkavian is; though I presume they separated Kajkavian because it has reached standardization (while Chakavian hasn't). The question of fairness to "other Shtokavian dialects' speakers" is pretty much non-existent, the fact all varieties of BCMS are standardized on a single dialect of Shtokavian is relevant only to linguists. This is because Shtokavian remains fully mutually intelligible among all its dialects, and you couldn't tell apart neighbouring dialects if your life depended on it. :p Whether and to whom are SC and BCMS unfair names is not related to its dialects. Back when it was first being standardized in the 19th century, calling the common language plain "Shtokavian" was common, though that initiative has not been revived since then. In conclusion, BCMS/SC is constituted either of: 1) just Shtokavian or 2) Shtokavian, Kajkavian and Chakavian. There has never been a linguistic-grounded categorization of only two of these under the common language moniker while excluding a third. –Vipz (talk) 02:48, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Queering Wikipedia 2023 conference[edit]

Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group and the organizing team of Queering Wikipedia is delivering the Queering Wikipedia 2023 Conference for LGBT+ Wikimedians and allies, as a hybrid, bilingual and trans-local event. It is online on 12, 14 and 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT, with offline events at around 10 locations on 5 continents in the 5-day span as QW2023 Nodes.

The online program is delivered as a series of keynotes, panels, presentations, workshops, lightning talks and creative interventions, starting on Friday noon (UTC) with the first keynote of Dr Nishant Shah entitled: I spy, with my little AI — Wikiway as a means to disrupt the ‘dirty queer’ impulses of emergent AI platforms. Second keynote is at Sunday’s closure by Esra’a Al Shafei, Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees vice chair, entitled: Digital Public Spaces for Queer Communities.

If you have been an active Wikimedian or enthusiast, supporting LGBT+ activities or if you identify as part of the larger LGBT+ community and allies in Wikimedia, please join us in advancing this thematic work. We encourage you to join online or in person with fellow Wikimedians if it is easy and safe to do so. Our working languages are English and Spanish, with possible local language support at sites of Nodes.

Registration for the online event is free and is open until Wednesday May 10th at 18:00 UTC, for safety protocol. Late event registration approval and event access denial is at the discretion of organizers.
