    Visibility of black artists is a Wikidata event to create language visibility for black artists in Igbo language. This event is in collaboration with Igbo Wikimedians User Group and Black Lunch Table Wikimedians.

    Black Lunch Table Wikimedians mobilize the creation and improvement of a specific set of Wikipedia articles that pertain to the lives and works of Black artists. For this event, participants will be taught how to translate labels, descriptions, and aliases on Wikidata, then after participants will embark on an editathon.

    How to participate

    1. Create an account if you are a new user
    2. Register for the event so that your edits can be tracked. Join the dashboard here
    3. Get the training resources
    4. Attend the in-person session for more information on what to do
    5. Enable the language settings on your Wikidata userpage if you have not done so. To enable the language settings, kindly navigate to your user page click on edit, add this template {{#babel:ig-N|en-5}} and publish. This setting enable users see the Igbo language text box on Wikidata.
    6. Start editing
    7. Ask questions for clarification

    Kindly note that the to-do list will be made available at the venue ( The list is on visual artists, curators, art writers and visual art subjects of the African Diaspora)

    If you wish to continue editing, more list can be found here ( kindly note that for the in-person event, we worked on numbers 1- 400, you can decide to work on other names as items on Wikidata, as demonstrated during the event)

    Outcome

    Irrespective of the challenges we faced with the dashboard and the event registration tool during the event, we were able to use other means to track contributions of participants. After the dashboard issue was rectified, and as recorded on the event dashboard, 349 items were edited and a total of 821 edits was made as at 18th May 2024.

    Challenges

    • The event dashboard was not loading properly, so we used other means to track participants' edits as at the time of the event.
    • Participants experienced difficulties while trying to register with the event registration tool here. We had to recreate the event on mainspace for easy coordination
