WUGN staff and leaders retreat is a retreat to mark the beginning of a new fiscal year and provides the staff and leaders the opportunity to align goals, brainstorm new initiatives, and foster teamwork.

    He highlighted the following points:

  • WUGN executive director, Omolayo Ogunsiji’s speech. 10:12AM - 10:15AM WAT
    She spoke on the importance of the retreat


  • Community Director’s presentation by Kayode Yussuf. 10:16AM -12:15AM WAT
    Started by going through the agenda of the day.
  1. Getting to know you: There was a brief engagement where he asked the participants to write things they knew about other participants. He also asked them to write down their expectations for the next few days they’ll be spending at the retreat.
  2. He also mentioned that participants should have mutual respect for one another.
  3. Operations of WMF (he explained affiliates, usergroups, chapters, and thematic organisations).
  4. He spoke about fanclubs and networks’ health status.
  5. 2023 projections (to double the community and to expand LASU fan club to Ojo Campus)
  6. 2024 projections by (ramp up membership, rejig membership experience)
  7. He spoke about WUGN membership


  • Questions and Answers
  1. Is it compulsory to inform the WUGN of the change of staff advisors? David Adeleke
    Answer: Yes
  2. Will there be a policy for membership, and is it possible to have a leadership handbook? Caroline Seaman
    Answer: Yes.
  3. Is there a constitution for fan clubs? Aminat Adepoju
    Answer: Yes
  4. How can we go about building new networks? David Adeleke and Aminat Adepoju.
    Answer: We need to be sure there are enough volunteers and participants from the proposed area to be members of the network.
  5. Can networks create fan clubs? Caroline Seaman.
    Same answer as above.
  6. How do we sort out the issues of people who belong to more than one network of hubs? Do they have to pay a membership fee for each community? Dr. Ngozi.
    Answer: No, they have to pay once and pick a network to be a member of. This doesn’t stop them from supporting other networks.


  • Programs director, Ayokanmi Oyeyemi’s presentation on WUGN project plan for 2024. 12:15PM -1:48PM
    He torchlighted the projects scheduled from May 2024 to December 2024, which are:

  2. Afro creatives wiki project + film
  3. WPWP
  4. Wiki loves earth
  5. 1lib1ref
  6. Wiki loves monuments
  7. Train the trainers Nigeria program
  8. Oral history
  9. Wiki independence
  10. International day of banks.
  11. He also shared the program calendar for the year.

  • Grants Officer Ashioma Medi’s presentation on Grants Report 23/24, (3:05 - 5:15)
    His presentation covered:
  1. Overview of the report
  2. Facts and figures
  3. Highlighted the importance of submitting reports
  4. Grant making process
  5. Gender distribution
  6. Event class
  7. Wikimedia projects in focus (check recording for more details) told them to start spreading to other wiki projects.
  8. Networks & fanclubs performance report (he highlighted Gombe, Unilorin, Kaduna)
  9. Reporting
  10. Future projection
  11. Notable recognition. Ramatu spoke on how the kaduna
  12. Final notes


  • Recommendations
  1. Medi, Ayokanmi, and Kayode hammered on being realistic in expectations and providing adequate reports.
  2. Hashtags can be used for specific projects, but dashboards are mandatory for all projects.


Meeting for Day 3 ended at 5:15 PM WAT.
