Event Name[edit]

WikiIndaba Conference 2018

My Input[edit]

This was my first WikiIndaba. I attended in my capacity as a co-founder of WMEG UG, WEP leader at many Egyptian universities, organizer of many female contests on Ar.Wikipedia, admin and editor.

I participated in several capacities:

I talked to many people about diversity context for Arab and African participants and editors and the Wikimedia activity in Egypt, and discussed the future of Indaba trying to show our value as African community and the amazing value of regional conferences.

Participant Connections[edit]

  • I got many connections with people I know already and with those I never knew before, it was effective for networking and sharing experiences like Stephane Coillet-Matillon, Jack Rabah, Blossom Ozurumba, Alex Stinson, Reda Kerbouche, Reda Benkhadra, Anass Sedrati, Zachary McCune, Joy Agyepong, Douglas Scott and Marc Miquel.
  • Woubzena Jifar from the WMF, talking about a rapid grant for a female contest which I organized on March and Abril, really there we solved this issue and we took an approval for this grant.
  • With Florence Devouard, who I shared with her many ideas.
  • Many professional photographers from Argelia and Germany like Fayçal Rezkallah and Gereon Kalkuhl, whose I spoke about Indaba and Wikimedia Conference in Berlin the following month (April 2018).

Outcome[edit]

  • Many ideas and collaboration with Art+Feminism representative.
  • Thinking about hosting WikiIndaba in Egypt, may be after Nigeria!
  • Would like to be in the steering committee, but sadly no more time for that.
  • Intend to be a volunteer for other regional conferences, based on my experience in organizing many WEP's conferences and our biggest challenge of WikiArabia in Egypt (2017).
  • Supporting editors to lunch their new user groups like Libya and told them about the process of setting up a user group and requirements.
  • The utility of Wikidata more and more, the female contest for African Community.
  • Connecting between Wiki Loves Africa 2017 contest with the winners in Egypt.
  • New collaboration with the Nigerian community in our established projects.

Anything else![edit]

Many thanks for Wikimedia Tunisia UG for the amazing organization!
