Wikimania 2016 bids/Atlantic City

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Welcome to Atlantic City[edit]

WP should DOAC in 2016! The only recommendations that I have at this time would be for the timing to avoid critical tourism dates, such as July 4. Atlantic City, New Jersey, is perfectly suited to host Wikimania 2016. The city welcomes visitors and is always proud to share in adding another page to the history of delegations.

Financial transparency from day 1[edit]

you guys owe me three cups of coffee so far 24.0.133.234 15:39, 21 May 2014 (UTC) (current voluntary vice president of graft and corruption ;))[reply]

My thinking on this is that everyone would profit, and although donor funds are available, that if Atlantic City were to host this event, a sizable donation to the project, maybe for a local Wikipedian in residence at the Atlantic City Library or some other sensible exchange, would be a goal to offset donor concerns.24.0.133.234 15:39, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • done Sent Tweet to @WikimediaAffCom Are you guys currently offering affiliate start-up grants? I saw proposal in 2013/2014 budget: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliations_Committee/Budget_2013/14
  • needs doing For financial and other support, decisions about affiliation need to be made. I have been informed that AC is in the NYC affiliate regional area, and that they should be contacted. Also looking-into Pennsylvania, and Wikivoyages, to see if it would be more appropriate to ask for affiliation with their groups, try and start new group--(must be in effect for 2 years pre-funding from what I can tell)...so finding affiliation status is probably the most important thing right now financially and support-wise.24.0.133.234 00:42, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Just so you know, Pennsylvania doesn't have a chapter, as that is now part of NYC. Additionally, AffCom would only fund you if you are planning to become a chapter, which you are not, since it would be redundant to the mission of WMNYC. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 22:30, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
