What is the main goal of your project?
  • The goal of the project is to encourage the interest of members of the Slovak Wikimedia community in photographing protected natural areas and objects (protected plants and animals) as part of the Wiki Loves Earth 2024 photo contest. We want to use the requested funds to promote the contest, to reimburse travel expenses for selected participants and to buy modest prizes for three authors of the best pictures.
Describe which activities you plan to implement
  • First of all, we want to promote the Wiki Loves Earth 2024 photo contest on the social networks of our user group (Facebook, Instagram). We want to support interest in traveling to the protected natural areas within Slovakia by granting the possibility of reimbursement of small travel expenses (approximately 15 € per one-day photo trip). Finally, we want to reward authors of the best three photographs with prizes in the form of vouchers for the purchase of books.

  • The organizing team consists of three people (usernames): Armin (main organizer), Jetam2, KormiSK. All three also participated in organizing last year's Wiki Loves Earth contest for the Slovak wikimedians.
For which Wikimedia projects is the project relevant? For which communities is the project relevant? What is your target group?
  • The project is relevant for the global Wiki Loves Earth 2024 photo contest. The proposed project is mainly relevant for a community of Slovak wikimedians (but foreign wikimedians can also participate). The promotion of the photo contest should be aimed especially at young amateur photographers who would share their works via the Wikimedia Commons media repository.
Do you have any metrics for the proposed grant proposal? If yes, please fill in the number of participants, editors, organisers and content contributions (Wikipedia articles, Wikimedia Commons images, Wikidata items, etc.)
  • Based on last year's results, we expect the participation of approximately 50 to 70 photographers who could upload approximately 500 photos to the Wikimedia Commons media repository. The images must contain basic metadata, geocoordinates and also the identification number of the protected natural area or natural object.The condition for reimbursement of travel expenses will be to take at least ten photos from one protected area during one-day photo trip.
