The CEE Hub microgrants programme

Open call for funding for the communities across the CEE Region

The goal of the CEE Hub microgrants programme is funding short-term and low-cost projects proposed by Wikimedia community members (individuals, groups, affiliates, or organisations contributing to Wikimedia projects in the CEE Region) which will be implemented throughout 2024, until the approved budget of 8.000 EUR is exhausted.

Microgrants are intended for implementation of projects that have value for communities in the CEE region. They are not meant as personal grants which support only one person.

After the microgrant application is submitted, the CEE Hub Staff is evaluating the proposal and deciding about allocation of the microgrants budget.

Eligibility[edit]

All applications and applicants should fulfil these criteria which are explained on the Meta page for Rapid proposals from the WMF. Same rules must be applied because the budget of the CEE Hub Microgrants programme is given and approved by the WMF.

Specific criteria[edit]

Applicants and members of their team are not on the list of globally banned individuals, and/or anyone with an active block on Wikimedia projects, for any reason (which can be checked here)
Grant requests and reports should be submitted in English
Project implementation in terms of spending funds should last no longer than one month although the implementation of project activities of the submitted project can last longer
Same applicant or group can receive max. two (2) CEE Hub's microgrants during one microgrant application round (in this case, during 2024), however the CEE Hub will aim to ensure a proper distribution of microgrants across the CEE region (i.e. Baltics, Balkans, Caucasus, Central Europe, etc.)
The final report should be submitted using a designated format no later than one month after the end of the project implementation (as stated in the grant application where duration and timing is explained by the applicant). One individual check-in meeting with grantees will take place in the middle of the project implementation

Remark

It is recommended that individuals ask for a microgrants from their local organisation, in case this kind of microgrants programme exists in their country.

Examples of eligible activities

Organising a community meet-up
Organising a workshop
Conducting an outdoor activity
Knowledge-exchange between affiliates
Education projects, for example, reading or editing training on Wikipedia, Wikidata or other Wikimedia projects

Examples of eligible costs

Food and refreshments
Renting a venue
Printing promotional materials
Translations
Subscriptions and/or access to different databases (which are not covered through Wikipedia Library)
Travel
Accomodation

Remark: Both lists for activities and costs are not exhaustive. We are mentioning the most likely examples.

Selection and approval criteria[edit]

Sustainability of the project and the possibility of long-term collaboration
Possibility of replication by other individuals, groups or organisations in the region
Importance of the project for the community
Involvement of more community members in the implementation
Rationalisation of costs and the possibility of using the resources of partners and associates
Measures of success and effects of the project
Alignment of targets and budgets

Application process[edit]

Submissions are evaluated and monitored by the CEE Hub Staff. An appeal about their decisions can be made to the CEE Hub Steering Committee: sc@wmceehub.org.

Report[edit]

The final report should be submitted using the designated format no later than one month after the end of the project implementation (as stated in the grant application where duration and timing is explained by the applicant).

Step 3: Fill in the form and save the page. After you have saved it, your report's status will change into proposed report. After approval, it will be changed into approved report.
