Wikimedia Community Developers Group

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Description and mission[edit]

The Wikimedia Community Developers Group is a Wikimedia user group composed of both volunteer and staff developers, which aims to foster closer collaboration between all developers — whether that's those who build and maintain tools, provide code review of patches on Gerrit or Gitlab, manage our infrastructure or are just starting out.

This user groups' mission aligns closely with the first guiding principle, namely to;

cultivate a healthy community of contributors around the source code, and to work with upstream projects and contribute back improvements to their code.
— Freedom and open source

Eligibility[edit]

We seek to encourage newer developers and help build their skills — as such, our eligibility criteria have been made to be as open as possible. Any active member of the Wikimedia Community is eligible to join this user group, providing they abide by the code of conduct for Wikimedia technical spaces.

Activities[edit]

  • Leading code review-a-thons to ensure volunteer's patches do not languish in backlog-hell.
  • Helping pair developers with high impact tools looking to build a more resilient development team.
