Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia/Wikimania 2023 Scholarship

The following page describes the process for Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia (MYS) scholarships. This is different from the scholarships offered by Wikimedia Foundation (WMF).

Wikimania 2023 will be reimagining the way in which many activities will be made available, the scholarship process is part of that reimagination. For 2023, the user group will be offering two different types of scholarships:

1. 7 full scholarships will provide travel, accommodation, and registration.
2. 5 partial scholarships will provide accommodation and registration.

All full and partial scholars are expected to be present in the conference from 16–19 August 2023. All scholars will be sharing hotel rooms with one scholar from the same gender.

All scholars are expected to:

• submit a report about their experience and learning in Wikimania on Meta one month after the conference;
• continue editing any Wikimedia project at least 10 edits every month for four consecutive months, and;
• be active members of MYS and be part of the organising team of at least one event organised by MYS in 2024.

Important dates

The timeline for the MYS Scholarship Program is as follows:

Travel Scholarship applications

• Open: Monday, 15 May 2023 at 00:00 UTC+08:00
• Deadline for applying for scholarships: Sunday, 4 June 2023 at 23:59 UTC+08:00
• Phase 1 eligibility assessment by the Scholarship Committee: 5–11 June 2023
• Phase 2 in-depth evaluations by the Scholarship Committee: 12–18 June 2023
• First offers will be sent to successful applicants: 19–25 June 2023
• Remaining applicants are notified about final decisions: 26–30 June 2023
• The full list of recipients published on this page: Saturday, 1 July 2023 at 12:00 UTC+08:00

The type of scholarship awarded will be determined based on the applicant's location and contributions. All scholarship applicants will be notified of their application result via e-mail.

Requirements

The requirements for scholarship applicants for the MYS Scholarship Program are as follows:

• Editor of any Wikimedia project with at least 100 edits total.
• Currently living in Malaysia.
• At least 18 years old.
• No active blocked account in any Wikimedia project.

Scholarship committee

The scholarship committee for the MYS Scholarship Program is as follows:

• Dody Ismoyo, president of MYS.
• Taufik Rosman, treasurer of MYS.
• Wafiq Kamarul, outreach committee of MYS.

The committee will go through all the applications based on the applicant's contribution and the Google Form.
