The strategies in our three fields of action: Volunteers, Software Development and Conditions for Free Knowledge
The following strategies were developed by the 5th Supervisory Board of Wikimedia Deutschland at the Strategy Workshop in July 2018, then finalized and adopted at their 16th conference call on September 12, 2018. The strategic directions provide the starting point for planning the year 2019 and guide strategic decisionmaking. They are, however, expressly not fixed for the coming years, but linked to the mandate of the ED to continuously further develop these strategies and to propose adjustments if necessary.
Our fields of action are interlinked. For each we have a strategy with 2-3 strands.
Field of action: Volunteers
- Cooperation with the community: Wikimedia Germany actively supports and accompanies our community in welcoming and integrating volunteers and adopting new technologies and formats. We actively initiate developments.
- Attracting volunteers: We find new ways to successfully attract volunteers to Wikipedia and ensure dynamic development of the encyclopedia.
Field of action: Technology
- Wikidata: We define the core of the Wikidata project and conclude its development until 2023.
2. Wikibase Ecosystem: Wikibase is easy to use as a stand-alone solution even without prior technical experience. It is used by various organisations to store, process and exchange data.
3. Innovation engine: We bring our international movement forward by regularly developing innovative products and services that are used within Wikimedia projects.
Field of action: Conditions for Free Knowledge
1. Politics: We bring about political changes at various levels and help to shape them.
2. Digital Literacies*: Together with partners, we support people in using the net as an open and public resource.
[*] In our understanding, digital literacies describe the necessary competencies to act confidently in a digital world and to play an active role in shaping it. They include elements of cognitive and practical skills, an understanding of the social and cultural context in which they are applied, attitudes and ways of thinking. Digital literacies include, for example: To create, question, evaluate and relate data and information to one's own context and the context of other people; to exchange with others, to jointly contents and to participate actively in social discourse.
