Wikimedia Spain is an non-profit association, recognized by the Wikimedia Foundation as Wikimedia chapter in Spain.

The Wikimedia Foundation approved its recognition on February 7th, 2011, a motion made public on February 9th. The association was registered on February 11th, 2011, and its registration in the Registro Nacional de Asociaciones del Ministerio del Intererior was confirmed on April 15th that same year.

On February 19th, 2011, the Ministry of the Interior declared it an Entity of Public Utility, by BOE resolution no. 43.

Its aim is to promote free knowledge by supporting the Wikimedia Foundation’s projects, such as Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata, and to encourage their development and dissemination in the various languages spoken in Spain.

You can also help by making a donation via bank transfer or PayPal; for further details, visit https://wikimedia.es/dona/. You do not need to be a member to take part in most of our activities; anyone interested in supporting our goals is welcome.

At Wikimedia Spain, we work to ensure that free knowledge is accessible, diverse and participatory, by promoting open and collaborative activities that encourage its creation, dissemination and development.

  • Outreach: We bring open knowledge to new audiences.
  • Editing: Edit-a-thons, competitions and campaigns to improve Wikipedia.
  • Photography: We illustrate knowledge through Wikimedia Commons.
  • Wikipedian in Residence: We collaborate with cultural and educational institutions.
  • Content release: We collaborate with cultural and educational institutions.
  • Wikipedia in the classroom: We integrate Wikipedia into teaching and learning processes, supporting teachers and students.
