About Us

Wikimedians of Kerala is a group of Wikimedians working on various Wikimedia projects in Kerala, India. Our primary focus is to support people working in Malayalam. We also support other languages spoken in Kerala. The group is also working with other organisations to promote the Malayalam language and Wikimedia projects. Anyone interested in these activities can join this group.

The user group primarily focuses on work in Kerala. Still, we also host various events for people in other parts of the world. We are promoting Malayalam-language content across different Wikimedia projects. We are also conducting various programmes to increase the user base of Wikimedia projects in Kerala.

Objectives

  • Spreading the ideas of the Wikimedia Movement.
  • Introducing Wikipedia to Keralites and overseas Keralites.
  • Encouraging contributors to contribute to Wikimedia projects.
  • Maintaining the community and obtaining more community members.
  • Helping with cooperation with other communities, organisations and institutions.
  • Helping the growth and development of other Malayalam-based Wikimedia projects.
  • Improve content about Kerala state and related topics in English and all other languages.

Plans for activities

  • Conducting Workshops and Meetups to attract new users into the Wikimedia movement.
  • Promotion of Wikimedia projects and Free content in general.
  • Encourage the use of Wikimedia resources in education.
  • Organise Events to collect Creative Commons content and upload it to Wikimedia Commons.
  • Create and maintain portals related to the Malayalam Language and Kerala in various Wikimedia projects.
  • Develop new local wikis (Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, etc.)
