Wikimedistas de Republica Dominicana (WM-RD, Wikimedians of Dominican Republic) is a proposed Wikimedia user group, a nonprofit organization that supports and promotes Wikimedia projects in Dominican Republic. It is an independent organization that aspires to get recognition from the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee. This user group aims to bring together the Wikimedia community in Dominican Republic. Our goal is to raise awareness and scale the influence, tone and voice of the Wikimedia Foundation and to contribute to the diffusion, improvement and progress of the knowledge and culture thorough the promotion and support of the Wikimedia's projects in the Dominican Republic. We aim to promote the use of Wikipedia by people in and around the DR territory.
We aspire to teach people to learn how to edit Wikimedia projects and combat systemic bias on Wikipedia. We support the existing work of Muj(lh)eres latinoamericanas en Wikimedia. All Wikimedia enthusiasts in DR are welcome to join our group.
History
[edit]In March 2019, Andrea Patricia Kleiman, traveled to the Dominican Republic to organize, with the CIPAF and USAD, the first edit-a-thons of Muj(lh)eres latinoamericanas en Wikimedia in our country. The events were so successful that we decided to create our own user group with the hope of becoming the chapter of Wikimedia in the Dominican Republic.
