Individual Engagement Grants[edit]

Hi User: Jaluj, Nice to meet you after a very long time! It feels great to know that you are interested in the research! I have some understanding of clinical psychiatry, but I am not into psychology. It would be just great if you'd like to take up the project. As you might know, you could apply for a grant to cover the expenses involved in pursuing the research. Please see that you can modify the research question in whichever way you want. It is also fine to conduct the research in Spanish, we are looking for diversity in terms of language and geography. The last date for proposing complete submissions is 15th of February, so you've got to be quick! Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! --Netha Hussain (talk) 09:59, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am contacting our chapters in Canada, Argentina and Finland for us all to work together to reach out to the vulnerable youth at Attawapiskat First Nation to promote Wikipedia editing and other wiki projects. I am very good on the phone so that is where I can be of most use. Right now I have a vision, subject to change should you having different ideas, of 1 or more of us using email and/or telephone and or Skype to communicated directly with individuals, groups, and local teachers promoting and illustrating how much fun and education they can have through Wiki editing.

Wikimedia diversity - What happened at the conference and how to follow up[edit]

Hello Jaluj,
We are messaging you now because you signed up as an ambassador for Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017. We are sharing this message far and wide, so apologies in advance if you are receiving this message twice.

During the conference, we dedicated a full afternoon to discussing the strategic direction and what it means for the work on diversity in the Wikimedia movement. Compiling the outcomes of those conversations, we summarized the key problems and solutions identified, and we created a summary statement. But the conversation is far from over! We still need to hear from diversity ambassadors: (1) what does working for diversity mean at your local context?; (2) what are the needs that should be addressed; (3) what resources are relevant for these identified needs?

We know that diversity gains meaning in context, and this is why we need to hear every voice. Please take a few minutes to go over to the diversity conversation page and add your comments.

If you’d like to stay in touch, and share your experience working for diversity with others, add your profile on our group here.

Thank you and see you on the wiki,
Sara (talk)

Therapy[edit]

Thank you!

One of the wiki periodicals featured a write-up of your program of therapy in hospitals using the editing of Wikiquote. Great stuff! Having worked with challenged children, I know that building self-esteem can be a key to mental health and overall development. I find that it works for me, personally, as well. I just wanted to give a bit of feedback. Breaking tasks into tiny, bite-sized increments works so well with the physically and mentally challenged. That's how I learned to edit Wikipedia as well. A natural fit, but one which took a special person to think of and implement. Ya done good, is all I'm trying to say. Wikimania Ambassador[edit]

Hi!

I noticed that you have signed up as a Wikimedia Diversity Ambassador, after the Diversity Conference held in Stockholm 2017. In August this year, Wikimania will take place in Stockholm, and our goal is to use Ambassadors to reach out to local communities, to spread the news about the conference and the outcomes afterwards. The conference theme (still to be announced) will connect closely to diversity. If you would like to be involved as a Wikimania ambassador, please sign up at the Ambassador page at the Wikimania wiki!

A first thing to do, if you would like to help out, would be to translate the scholarship page at the Wikimania wiki into the language(s) you speak!

Upcoming 2019 Affiliate-selected trustee position on the Board of Wikimedia Foundation[edit]

Greetings Ms. Kleiman,

My name is Gerald Shields, also known as user:Geraldshields11. I am asking for your top rank vote for me, or second rank vote, in the election for one of two open trustee positions on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees.

In addition, I answered all of the specific and general questions to the candidates, including the one you asked.

I am asking for your vote to help support emerging communities and promote an inclusive education environment on all wiki projects. Also, I plan to promote various other issues as I mention in my statement and answers to various questions. I ask that you show your support for the issues that need to be address by voting for me as one of your preferences.

My candidacy information page is Affiliate-selected Board seats/2019/Nominations/Gerald Shields on Meta or can be found at Gerald Shields candidate. As of the 7 May 2019 list of questions, I am the only candidate to have responded to all of the “Questions for all candidates - Questions for this individual candidate that do not apply to other candidates”. My answers give more details on why the Muj(lh)eres latinoamericanas en Wikimedia should vote for me.

Thank you for your time, discussion, and consideration of my candidacy. I appreciate it.

My best regards,

Gerald Shields

Iberocoop and rebranding[edit]

Hi. I noticed a comment you made, and as I write this I am stunned to realize it was one year and two months ago. In particular your comment read in part In all the meetings in which I participate, people opossed. I asked many people, I'm part of Iberocoop and I still couldn't find a chapter or user group from there that tells me they supported the [rebranding] proposal... The overall feeling of many wikimedians I talk to is that communities are not heard.[1]

Well, over a year later and the overall feeling of the people I talk to remains the same as the people you spoke to. The Foundation is aggressively not-hearing us. I'm not sure if you have followed the issue, but there was an RFC with 92% consensus (540 opposed to the Foundation calling itself Wikipedia), then an open letter signed by over a 1,050 editors and affiliates, the Board has "paused" the process and has defined a committee. The committee will offer the Board advice on how to proceed, then the Board will decide how to proceed.

Either by design or by statistically-implausible-accident, the committee-rules appear to be covertly stacked to maximize the opportunity for the committee to be dominated by fringe-minority individuals. (In other words, dominated by people who support renaming the Foundation as "Wikipedia" in some form.) The committee is defined here. Two of the seats on the committee are dedicated to the "Global South / emerging and underrepresented communities". Specifically, five individuals are to be supplied from Wiki Indaba, ESEAP, IberoCoop, the India lists, and the Brazilian community, then the Board will select two of them.

When I saw your comment, I came here. I hoped you had Iberocoop contacts and maybe you could help ensure that the committee-candidate from Iberocoop is aligned with the majority view. Or, in the worst case, to ask you ping me with info if you find out Iberocoop is nominating someone who supports renaming the Foundation as Wikipedia. Invitation to participate in Universal Code of Conduct survey - WikiWomen's User Group[edit]

(You are receiving this message as you signed your interest to participate as part of the WikiWomen's User Group)

Hello, my name is Mervat Salman, a UCoC Facilitator, Trust and Safety team.

As you know, the WMF Board of Trustees ratified the Universal Code of Conduct early in February. That's the beginning; the policy itself cannot be used if the enforcement pathways are not defined. The implementation and enforcement of the UCoC requires the continuous cooperation to define clear definitions of enforcement pathways and processes. This needs to be done in a way that does not contradict with the internal bylaws and codes of conduct currently in place, but rather to support them and complement their deficiencies, if any.

In this phase of the process, we would like to invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns about the UCoC implementation, reporting and enforcement pathways using this survey:

Notice: This survey will be conducted via a third-party service, which may subject it to additional terms. For more information on privacy and data-handling, see the survey privacy statement <https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/UCoC_Affiliates_Survey_Privacy_Statement>.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org.
