Hi, I´d like to request sysop permission for pt (portuguese). It was announced on Wikipédia (where, currently, I'm a sysop) and Wikcionário. My username on both projects is Patrick (wikipedia) Patrick (wiktionary). --Patrick-br 20:52, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Done. I also made Patrick a bureaucrat at pt Wiktionary as there were no objections to his adminship from any of the 23 users there, and he seems to be one of the more active users on that wiki. Angela 20:46, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)

ja

The following users accepted recommendation for the adminship and no objection was raised for a substantial amount of period. The page including the record of this process is now deleted, but the past versions are still in the database. ja:Wiktionary:居酒屋/管理者

  • Nnh[1]
  • Pia Carrot[2]
  • Tomos[3] (Currently a sysop but listed just for the record since the process of Tomos becoming a sysop was a bit irregular.)

Just a sidenote, although we went through concensus-building process for this, the they are considered temporal sysops. Some or all of them may resign after a few month. Tomos 00:43, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

pl.wiktionary.org

After discussing the matter on wikipl-l I was given the bureaucrat status on pl.wiktionary.org (by user:Taw). However - I quote Taw - apparently the Polish Wiktionary runs on an older version of software that does not recognise the bureaucrat flag. Indeed, the page "Specjalna:Makesysop" does not exist (but don't all Wikipedias and Wiktionaries run on 1.2.5?)

Can anyone clarify/remedy this? Perhaps it's me that misunderstands something (it might be the case; on de.wiktionary.org there is a bureaucrat even though the Spezial:Makesysop page doesn't exist either).

Thanks,
--user:Tsca (pl:wikt:Wikipedysta:Tsca)

Bug confirmed. There is no pl:wikt:Specjalna:Makesysop. I've made Tsca a bureaucrat via the steward interface as making myself a bureaucrat at pl.wikitionary and trying from there wouldn't work. I'll let Tim Starling know about it. Angela 22:53, 18 May 2004 (UTC)

User:Ryo

(language code: ja project: wikipedia)

Ryo has served as a temp-sysop on Japanese Wikipedia upon the community's request/approval and Looxix's recoomendation to help us deal with some vandalism.

Now that we got some extra sysops at ja, vandalism subsided, extra measures to counter vandalism, and that we asked him a help for a limited time period, we would like to thankfully release him from this duty.

I have just talked to Ryo on IRC about this, and he agrees with the idea. The ja. community was also asked about it, and although nobody was eager to let him go, no objection was raised (just one affirmation).

So please de-sysop Ryo.

  • Ramir: Greetings. In brief: I request a bureaucrat (preferably) or a sysop status on Russian Wikibooks to be able to move and delete pages and (maybe?) give other people the sysop authorities.
Now, the whole story. Back in somewhen around February this year (although I doubt Anthere (the French girl?) will remember me), I(ru:Участник:Ramir) was granted a sysop status on ru:. There was hardly any activity then, with only two or three regular editors. I have since contributed by writing (almost all of the existing present) Help articles and guidelines, improving some existing articles on different topics, and writing complete and worthful articles from scratch. I also know (X)HTML and CSS very well, so it was me who did the design of pages on ru:. Then I got the Russian department of Wikisource going, by writing the introductory text and designing the Main page. Recently I wrote the English-language article about en:Ithkuil (the best language ever constructed), and the Russian-language one too. Now we (me and one other guy) are thinking of translating the author's online textbook into Russian using the wiki environment of Wikibooks. I don't know if I will actually find the time to do the translation, but I still want to bring the Russian Wikibooks to life, as I did other Russian Wiki*'s. And after I do that, other current ru.Wikipedians may want to get the sysop status on Wikibooks. So why not make me a Buraucrat straightaway? :-)
    • I have made Ramir a bureaucrat though this is subject to there being no later objections, particularly since he has a very low edit count there at the moment. Angela

De:wikipedia needs to temporarily unsysop three sysops to cool down. They asked on irc that they be temporarily unsysoped. the three users are

I desysoped these three people. Sansculotte, Henriette and Danimo are my references that this was a community decision.

Done for Elian and Ulrich. I could not do it for Triebt%E4ter, so asked JamesDay to do it for me.

Anthere 18:32, 24 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Hi Anthere, can you please explain who requested that? There is a formal procedure for de-sysoping in place at the german language Wikipedie de:Wikipedia:Administratoren/Probleme which should be followed. A community consensus on de-sysopping any of the named persons has not been found so far, so I must insist that you please restore all sysop rights immediatly. Thanks, Uli.

Hi Uli. As said above, it was asked by me by several people (Elian included), and I have as referrals for this action sansculotte, henriette and danimo. These latter indicated that it was community decision. It is best that you ask them exactly. This discussion occurred on irc. The desysoping is meant to be temporary, to have all three people cool down. See it as a short time out to allow a break. You have bureaucrats on de: They can sysop these contributors when they consider the time out is over. Cheers. Anthere 19:18, 24 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Actually I'm quite angry since we have a formal process for that and some people decided on their own to take a shortcut. That's not ok - we introduced the formalities for exactly these situations, and there is no reason why we should not follow them when we need them. However, since Elian was involved in that request an obviously accepted this temporary downtime for her, I will do so also; hope that Triebtäter joins us then. Perhaps this way we can get that issue out of the world in an informal way without now setting the formal procedure in march agains Sansculotte and Co, because they broke that formal procedure. So, ist forgive and forget again... Uli
Actually, we do not have a formal process for this - there have been some attempts to put a procedure description that looked like a formal/offical process on a Wikipedia page, but this has never been approved by the community, just by some of the usual suspects that are very eager to start votes on just everything. The majority of the community did not know that there these things going on, and a lot of people are just not interested in this issue. So basically, the "formal processes" up to now have just been a farce, nothing else. --Zenogantner 14:50, 25 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Elian call me personnaly to request that Uli. So, I would really say, do not be angry, try to have a nice and cool evening, and see bright tomorrow. And try to explain that to the third one as well please. Cheer up :-) Anthere 19:43, 24 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I'd like to run the pywikipediabot as D6. Would you mark it as a bot? -- User:Docu

  • Anthony DiPierro was made a sysop on the Sep11 wiki. Maximus Rex has objected to this. Please see Sep11:Wikipedia talk:Administrators. Angela 01:49, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I am troubled that there was 0 discussion on wikipedia before Anthony was made an admin. As I understand it from the original posting here, he simply messaged a steward privately on IRC and was made an admin. This was done despite Anthony's long history as a "controversial user" (arbitration case and arbitration evidence). Anthony didn't even have an account on sep11: earlier today. He was made a sysop at 00:43 UTC and announcement was made after the fact at 00:47 UTC on meta. Stewards should not be making these sorts of decisions. In the original posting it said, "this adminship should apply only for as long as no one is objecting to it". I objected to it at 01:00 UTC yet as of writing this he is still an admin. Maximus Rex 04:49, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I unsysoped Ant for now. Ant.
I didn't feel desysopping him was an emergency, so I didn't do it immediately. Even so, he only remained a sysop for five hours. Regarding making the decision in the first place, I don't see who there was to ask as there are no regular users on that wiki. It's only because I annouced it in various places that anyone voted at all. Angela 13:22, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I did not feel it was an emergency either. But I noticed that once someone has been made a sysop, the real discussion swap to whether there is reason to unsysop him, while the real discussion should be whether to make him sysop in the first place. Hum ? Angel did well, but since there is, I think opposition should be taken into consideration. Anthere
The current procedure for requesting adminship where there is no procedure on the local is to request it on this page, Requests for permissions. If Anthony wanted to be admin there he would have to post a request here and wait. This was not done. The top of this page clearly, states, "This is a central page to request permissions (sysop status, bureaucrat status, bot status) on one of the Wikimedia projects, where no local means exist to do so yet", which would describe the sep11 wiki. There is a provision to ask for direct action (which the unilateral sysoppping of Anthony clearly was), however this is meant to be done for "combatting ongoing large-scale vandalism", which was not why Anthony was sysopped. Your defense to going back on your original statement that "this adminship should apply only for as long as no one is objecting to it" was that "I didn't feel desysopping him was an emergency." Whether it was an emergency or not is irrelevant since sysopping was certainly not an emergency and that was done quickly and with no public discussion and it should have been undone just as quickly. You could have just as easily desysopped after my objection, but you didn't. So you have set the precedent that a steward can make someone a sysop (even if they didn't even have an account before today), and then when someone objects instead of following through with your original promise to desysop, you decided that you would change your mind and solicit a vote. Votes are supposed to occur before someone is made a sysop, not after. "he only remained a sysop for five hours" he would have remained one longer if someone else didn't step in. I am not as upset by the original action of sysopping Anthony (which was the wrong thing to do), but that the instead of undoing this mistake (which you indicated you would do), you instead removed the discussion from here and solicited a vote (that is you said one thing, yet did another). Sysopping Anthony was a mistake. People make mistakes. Responsible people admit their mistakes and attempt to correct them. Maximus Rex 15:32, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)~

I'm sorry for the problems my handling of Anthony's sysop request has caused. I'm not trying to justify my actions, but just trying to explain why I did what I did. Firstly, I don't read the policy as saying requests had to be made here. Many of the other requests have been carried out following contact elsewhere. If this is the policy, then that should be made clearer, but I don't see how that would have helped the issue as there is no minimum waiting time between request and action. Secondly, when I wrote "this adminship should apply only for as long as no one is objecting to it", it was more an instruction to other stewards. I expected opposition, but not immediately. I thought this would be something another steward would be dealing with in the future, not something I would be expected to do an hour after I sysopped him.

My starting up of the vote was not meant to be me reneging on the deal of him being unsysopped following opposition; it was just an attempt at some sort of fair process. However, I fully accept that this backfired and, in hindsight, wish I hadn't bothered with it. I apologise that doing this led people to waste time in voting, and for the anxiety it caused those who felt strongly against Anthony's adminship. Following this, I have realised that people would have preferred him to be desysopped immediately, so I am sorry I did not undertake that. I genuinely thought a vote would be useful. I will know for next time that this is not always going to be the case. Angela 22:57, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for trying to do the right thing, even though things backfired this time.:) Starting up a vote to see what people thought was a good idea. Please see my suggestion over in talk for one possible way to reduce the chance of a recurrence. Jamesday 07:42, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)

  • In a discussion on the Slovenian Wikipedia, it just happens to be mentioned that there was no sysop there. • Request to become bureaucrat at gl: [[[:w:gl:user:agremon|agremon]]] (It's no one, only users with sysop status)
    • A check on the gl: wikipedia showed implicit agreement from JorgeGG; furthermore agremon is by far the most active user. Granted this request. - Andre Engels 13:07, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

We had two new admins on it that got already enough votes months ago, but no one gave them the right to be admin. I gave it now to them but I started also a vote for another person on it to be Burocrat, so that in the future no steward is needed for new admins on it. Hope it is right, what I did (otherwise let me know!), it is the first time I "made an admin" :-) Fantasy 22:23, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Please, turn both users Robo5 and Zwobot on bg: into bots. --Borislav 05:21, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)

User روزبه at fa (that is me) asks to be granted bureaucrat status to give some powers to others so he won't remain the only sysop to blame on the Persian Wikipedia. This is to share the evil power! Roozbeh 15:12, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Please can you let us know what your user ID is. Thanks. Angela 17:36, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)
You can see your ID number on top of your preferences page. - Andre Engels 07:42, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)
The ID is "4". Roozbeh 10:22, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Does not seem to be working. What am I doing wrong? (User rights for "#4@fa" could not be set. (Did you enter the name correctly?)) - Andre Engels 17:11, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I had the same problem on fi: yesterday. I've left a message for Tim about it. Angela 18:06, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I think, it's done now (I give me bureaucrat status on fa, then set روزبه bureaucrat from there). Can someone understanding farsi confirm it? -- Looxix 18:39, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)
The bug with setting permissions using IDs is apparently fixed now. Angela 08:02, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I have made Timwi a sysop on zh: to help combatting a rather aggressive vandal. If no action has been taken, he can be de-sysoped again soon, if so wanted. - Andre Engels 16:09, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC) Same for Suisui. Rather persistent vandal. - Andre Engels 18:10, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC)

De-sysopped. - Andre Engels 07:42, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

User Mero at mg. I'd like to work on this a little more in depth. My User ID there is 3. --Mero 07:09, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Although Mero has been on mg: only a few days, I have decided positively on this request because:
1. He is the _only_ active contributor on mg:
2. He is a valuated Wikipedian elsewhere, being a sysop on en: and simple:
Andre Engels 07:23, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

User J.Pitkä at fi has been voted to have sysop rights. We don't yet have bureaucrats, so I ask here. -- TJ 17:15, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

My ID number is 231. Sorry for any inconvinience. J.Pitka 19:11, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Should be done now. Angela 19:48, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)
By mistake, I give also the bureaucrat status at J.Pitka. It's corrected now but not visible on the bureacrtlog on fi. Sorry for any confusion that may arise. -- Looxix 20:34, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Seth Ilys asked for his temporary adminship on zh to be removed, and Jorge requested his sysopship be reinstated following his request for it to be removed last week. Angela 17:40, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)

User Jorge at pt requested unsysoping for himself for wikistress. I did so. Anthere 15:19, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Request to become a bureaucrat at TR: volkan

Done. Angela 11:28, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • I am looking for adminship on the Lithuanian Wikipedia. There are many things to translate and update and I am willing to do so. Knutux 14:48, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • I have asked Dirgela to say whether he supports this as he is the most active user on lt: and Knutux has only been here a week. Angela 15:20, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)
      • Even as Knutux has been at lt:wiki only for a week I support his request as in this time he has made a big contribution and none of his contributions seem to be against wikipedia rules, NPOV or anything else. Lithuanian wikipedia is growing steady and it surely needs an admin. Dirgela
        • As lt had no bureaucrat, I have made Knutux one, so that he can handle future requests for adminship on lt. Angela 07:02, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • I would like to become a sysop for the Greek el.wikipedia.org.el:User:ank
    • Supported by Gkastel
      • Ank should be an admin on el now. If not, then please let me know. --mav 03:20, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Hello. I am looking for the interlinguian Wikipedia (Interlinguian Wikipedia) adminship. There are just 3 (2 active) sysops, so i think, it would need more. My knowledge of 5 other languages and of (more then one year now) Wikipedia (i'm already admin in de:) will be, I think, very helpful. Fire
    • Juste pour noter le nom, il pourrait y avoir un requete pour McDutchie sur la wiki interlangua. Anthere 17:21, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
      • Fire should be an admin on ia.wikipedia now. --mav 03:45, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
        • It was nice of Mav to grant adminship to Fire, but as an admin in ia.wiki perhaps this could have been discussed with the already working sysops, nothing agains User:Fire, but he doesn't even spell the name of the language correctly, it would be good to see him actually write some articles in Interlingua. Of course, as a polyglot I'm sure with some practice he'll do just fine, and BTW I'd requested bureaucrat status at the email list but haven't heard back since... what gives ;-) --User:ILVI
          • I made you bureaucrat as well, so Fire does not feel alone. I rejoin you on your feeling that once a pedia has 4 sysops, it is probably big enough to decide itself who should be or not be bureaucrat. And it is important that at least one person is, so that you can take care of your own business. Now, you are two, you do not need us anymore :-) Have fun ! Anthere
  • tokipona: : Please add admin status for me. --Sonjaaa 07:44, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • It looks like Tim has already made you one there. Angela 22:44, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • I am looking for adminship on the Urdu Wikipedia. Currently there are no admins there who know Urdu and can work on the wikipedia. Aalahazrat 2018, 05 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • done, please create a page to list admin, put your name on, and link at the top of this page. It would be helpful to contact you in case of further requests Thanks and welcome :-) (your language is unfortunately only ??? to me. My browser does not know the caracters) Anthere 17:23, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Request to become bureaucrat at KU: Erdal Ronahi 20:53, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC) (I am the only admin there so far.)

  • [[:ja:利"...:Michey.M]] wants to resign. Tomos

This is an archive of Bureaucrat access requests

I would like to be a bureaucrat (! :) ) I'm a sysop on en and cy and would like the ability to not be so lonely on cy (though I only have 1 person in mind at the moment). I will follow the policy above. -- Arwel 14:07, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)

  • I am a sysop on EN and will adhere to the above-stated policy. -- Viajero 10:04, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Bmills. I'm a sysop on the en Wikipedia. I agree to the policy as stated above and am keen to help out where I can. Bmills 14:23, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Welcome, Bmills. -- Tim Starling 14:32, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Dante Alighieri - Oh heck, I'll do it. It's not like I've got anything better to do... like work. :) I hereby agree to the above policy. Oh yeah, I'm a sysop on the EN. --Dante Alighieri 16:35, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Pakaran I'll do it when a need arises, probably only on en and on tiny wikis, since I know only English and Spanish. Also, I reserve the right to step down if holding off on doing it is causing me get flamed - I intend to wait for a blatent consensus before doing it on en. This isn't going to be something I do often in any event. Pakaran 17:22, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

  • Sorry - I agree to the above policy, and am a sysop here and on en. Pakaran 18:01, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Christian List. I'm a sysop on the da Wikipedia. I agree to the above policy. I will take care of da and possibly all the other nordic Wikipedias if they want me to. That includes no, sv, fi and is. If somebody shows up to start kl and fo I will do those to. I will not deal with en. --Christian List 18:55, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Angela. I'm a sysop on en, and agree to the above policy. I'm happy to make sysops for any of the Wikimedia projects that want me to make them. Angela 18:46, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC

Marumari. I'm also a sysop on en, and I agree to the above policy. I'm happy to make sysops, although I don't know if I necessarily feel comfortable doing it outside of en, unless their appears to be consensus on wikitech-l. Marumari 20:57, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

mav. I'm an admin on en, es, wikibooks (as 'maveric149') and meta (as 'Daniel Mayer') and would like to help make sure admin requests on those wikis (esp meta and wikibooks) get fullfiled per the processes laid out on those wikis. I agree to the above policy. Thanks for adding this feature! :) --mav 23:49, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Andre Engels. I'm a sysop on en, nl and fy. I would intend to do promotions on nl: (based on community consensus), fy: and af: (for now based on active users), and on other small languages. I do agree to the above policy, although I do intend to go with the spirit (don't do promotions that someone would object to) rather than the letter (only promote active contributors) on very small Wikipedias - sometimes there are no 'active contributors'. Andre Engels 02:55, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I would like to be a bureacrat. I'm a sysop on the Norwegian wiki (we currently have 2 sysops). Our activity is increasing, and it would be nice to be able to make new sysops ourselves. I would of course also be happy to help on other wikis, if they want me to. I do agree to the above policy. Wolfram 06:00, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)

  • What precisely is the policy on making bureaucrats of users from these very small wikis? It seems clear enough, but I'm just erring on the side of caution here. Pakaran 07:09, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
    • A person who is a sysop on a wiki with more than one sysop may be made a bureaucrat. Two is more than one. You are not obliged to carry out the action, however. If nobody believes Wolfram should be a bureaucrat, then nobody will make him one. -- Tim Starling 07:36, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
    • Note that Christian List has already offered to administer no. -- Tim Starling 08:06, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
    • In defense of my request, I've also translated a big part of our software, and have a quite high edit count (currently around 2,500 on no:), also before I became an admin, I'm also active on da:. It is correct that we (no:) are a small wiki (nearly 2,000 articles), but we are on the list of the 10 fastest growing.
    • However, I see your point, although many Norwegians would have mixed feelings being ruled from Copenhagen, as Norway was for many centuries ;-) Just a side note. If nobody wants me as bureaucrat, I withdraw my request. No hard feelings. Wolfram 12:07, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
      • I support Wolfram to be bureaucrat for the norwegian wiki, I have worked with Wolfram on both the danish and norwegian wiki, he will be good for the job. I only suggested myself because I was not sure anybody else would want to. By the way I live in Virginia not in Copenhagen (not that it makes things better though :-) -- Christian List 15:42, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
        • I just made Wolfram a bureaucrat. It is only appropriate that the Norwegian wikipedia be allowed to decide for itself who to create as sysops and then enabled to act on those decisions. Wolfram seems to have broad-based support (such as it is on a smaller wikipedia) and is devoted to the cause. Welcome. --Dante Alighieri 21:46, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
          • Sounds good to me. I was kind of putting it off because of some reservations expressed on IRC. Pakaran 01:37, 8 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I'm a sysop on swedish wikipedia, and as a developer I've sysopped users from various wikis before. I agree to the policy stated above and would appreciate sysop / bureaucrat status on meta. // E23 02:39, 8 Feb 2004 (UTC)
