This page hosts requests for a bot flag on a Wikimedia wiki with no bureaucrats. Please read the instructions before posting a request. Do NOT post your request here until you get community approval (ie, don't list your bot here if you haven't consulted the local wiki for at least a week, or whatever local policies dictate). Previous requests are archived.

Instructions [edit]

Before posting here [edit]

If there is a bureaucrat on the local wiki, please ask them to fulfill your request using Special:UserRights on the relevant wiki. Before requesting access here, make sure to obtain consensus on the local wiki if there is a community (see the index of request pages). If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect. You can ask local bot flag directly here for some wikis in some cases (see automatic approval).

Remember to read the local project's bot policy. This should be linked from the local bot request page; a few are listed below. DO NOT post your request here without having fulfilled the local policies first, and having waited for at least a week to gauge community opinion.

Making a request [edit]

  1. Place the following code at the bottom of the "Bot status requests" section below:
    === Bot name@xxproject ===
    {{sr-request
     |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
     |domain    =
     |user name =
     |discussion=
    }}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

    You can use following form when applying global bot status:

    === Global bot status for <yourbotname> ===
    {{sr-request
     |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
     |domain    = global<!--don't change this line-->
     |user name =
     |discussion=
    }}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

  2. Fill in the values:
    • 'domain': the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
    • 'user name': the bot's user name (like "ExampleBot"). Leave it blank if you're requesting access for multiple bots.
    • 'discussion': a link to the local vote or discussion about the bot (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Bots#ExampleBot]]"). Notes: If there is no local vote or discussion, please say so below the template and explain why not. If there's no community, implement the standard bot policy instead.
  3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Global bot status requests [edit]

Global bots are enabled on most wikis using the standard bot policy (see list of global bot wikis and global bot access requirements). Request will typically be left open for several days to allow comments. Please add requests at the bottom of this section.

Global bots and Wikidata [edit]

A local flag has been requested for "KLBot2@svwiki" for moving interwiki to Wikidata. Isn't this a task that can be done with Global flag? It looks like (s)he is using the same kind of software as many other bots, and they have made millions of edits now. -- Lavallen 13:17, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Yes. It is also a global bot already. --MF-W 13:21, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
I know KLBOT2 is a Globa bot, but is moving interwiki to Wikidata included in what can be done by a global flag? If it is, we do not need any local procedure for such bots. -- Lavallen 13:24, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
I'd say that, given the new interwiki schema, what KLBot2 is doing may fall into the "mantaining interwiki links" provisions of the global bot policy. However this is my personal opinion and I'd appreciate if other stewards would comment in this matter too. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 13:29, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
I agree. I had thought this would be clear because the global bot flag was given to this bot specifically for interwiki maintenance related to Wikidata. --MF-W 14:21, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
This is also my opinion.  Hazard-SJ  ✈  04:26, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm the KLBot2 operator. I have removed the request. It was a mess. I think I can only edit in languages that are on this list. These languages are not on that list: bn, br, bs, de, dv, es, fiu-vro, fr, fy, gl, id, is, it, ksh, min, mo, mr, mt, nds, nn, pcd, pl, pt, ro, sl, sq, sr, uk, ur, vi, wuu, zu. It is a mistake or I have to request the bot flag locally for these languages? --Kizar (talk) 16:27, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Some wikis allow global bots, therefore they are in the wikiset which makes the global bot right have an effect on the wiki. Other wikis have not opted in to global bots, they are therefore also not included in the wikiset for global bots. See also the link from above this section, Bot_policy/Implementation#Where_it_is_policy. --MF-W 13:13, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
I have a global botflag and local botflags on the one that you need a local flag. As far as I know I have the permission to all the wikipedia projects to add and remove interwiki links. So I know it is possible to get those flags. Carsrac (talk) 04:00, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

SamoaBot@global [edit]

SamoaBot is currently approved on ksh.wiki, mt.wiki, br.wiki, el.wiki, hu.wiki and fy.wiki; it also runs on ia.wiki (without botflag) and has made over 1,240,000 global edits (of which about 1,160,000 on Wikidata).

I had a piece of JavaScript code, which I've quickly rewritten into Python, and now it removes many interwiki links that Addbot doesn't, mainly by following redirects and "normalizing" namespace names.

I would be glad to help with global removal of interwiki links, especially since it's approved on Wikidata and I could soon run a script to import remaining interwikis. --Ricordisamoa 14:54, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

But is it the same as Legobot? Ruslik (talk) 15:55, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
The same task, I think (but not the same code). However, Legobot "skipped" many minor wikis. --Ricordisamoa 16:50, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
Update: I've requested approval on Wikidata to import interlanguage links. --Ricordisamoa 17:25, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
Some example edits: interwiki removal and sitelink adding. --Ricordisamoa 11:43, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Any chance I can take a peek at the code? :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 11:15, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Of course, I'm preparing transition to Wikimedia Labs, so you'll have it soon! :P --Ricordisamoa 21:27, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Removal of bot status [edit]

If a specific user is abusing his/her bot status, you may request removal of the status on his account here. Please be sure to provide a short explanation on the current situation, along with links to the bot's contribution and an announcement in your community of the abuse. Previous requests are archived.

Please see the policy for global bots for the requirements that must be met for global bot access.

Bot status requests [edit]

Please add new requests at the bottom of this section.

Bot operators making bulk requests, please consider applying for global bot status and helping implement the standard bot policy on small wikis to simplify and streamline the bulk request process.
