Steward requests/Permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This is an archived version of this page, as edited by Ugen64 (talk | contribs) at 02:02, 12 October 2004. It may differ significantly from the current version.

This is a central page to request permissions for sysop status, bureaucrat status or bot status on one of the Wikimedia projects, where no local means exist to do so yet.

If your wiki has a request for adminship page and a bureaucrat (a bureaucrat is able to make people sysop on the local wiki), please use your local page. If not, use this page.

For urgent access (to combat ongoing large-scale vandalism), you may ask on the IRC channels #mediawiki or #wikipedia on irc.freenode.net (users angela, anthere or engels).

Techniques to give status are described on m:stewards.

How to request status

When you make your request, please

  • create a page on your wiki if it does not exist yet with:
    • a list of admins and bureaucrats on your wiki,
    • a link to this page
    • the conditions needed to become a sysop and the discussions (approval or disapproval) about a new candidate (larger wikis only)
  • give you user name on the project.

Current requests for permissions

Please specify whether you are asking for adminship on Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, or Wikibooks. Please note that all adminships are subject to approval by the community. If you are granted adminship and a complaint is later filed against you, this may be revoked immediately pending a vote (like en:WP:RFA) to ensure the community on your wiki supports your request.

Removal of access

Self-deadminship, or removal of bot flags from your bot can be requested here, and will be granted immediately. You may be asked to prove you are the same user on meta as on your local wiki first. To request the removal of sysop access from another user, please gain consensus on this on your own wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When it is finished and there is a community consensus to desysop a user, a trusted person from that wiki should just provide a link here to the discussion and a very brief explanation of what the results of that were.

Ugen64 de-bureaucrat

I wasn't sure where this belongs, so I'll just put it here (there's "self-de-adminship", but no "self-de-bureaucratship"). I'd officially like to ask for debureaucratship, because I am apparently "broadly interpreting" policy in an "aggressive fashion." ugen64 01:09, Oct 12, 2004 (UTC)

Requests for Bot status

To register a bot, please mention its name and the local wiki on which it will work here.

Warning : for some big wikipedias, such as en:, you will need to specifically request an authorization over there. See en:Wikipedia talk:Bots for approval by a sysop and then ask for the bot flag here.

Note to stewards: Bot policy on Wiktionary (in particular en.wiktionary) is under discussion so bots should not be made without approval of the appropriate wiki. See Beer parlour.

I request bot status for no:Bruker:EinBot. It is intended to be used as a interwiki bot between no-nn, no-da, no-sv, and also no-en, to take care of interwikilinks between the scandinavian wikipedia projects. Einar 22:39, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Is it only for no: you want this or for nn, sa, sv and en as well? You'll need to discuss it at Wikipedia talk:Bots for en. Angela 09:09, 8 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Current temporary sysops for emergency or technical purposes

  • simple:User:Netoholic -- Would like to ask for, at least temporary, sysop access to Simple English Wikipedia. A troublesome user (Haydes) from the regular English WP was blocked recently there, and has found a home on Simple: creating dozens of bad articles. He's already vandalized my user page there, and has proven himself to be very annoying on the EN: side. With Angela on a wikibreak, and unable to get in contact with the two other active admins, all I can do is mark the articles for deletion. -- Netoholic (talk page on simple) 01:36, 9 Oct 2004 (UTC)
done. I suppose there must be a bureaucrat over there, but well... this is urgent :-) Anthere. I only saw Angela comment afterwards. Status left for a week. -> 18/10/2004.

Fundraising notices

If the fundraising notice has not been removed from MediaWiki:Sitenotice on a wiki where the notice is protected and the wiki has no admins, please request here that a steward remove the message.
