Summary of the Call
[edit]On December 9, 2023, a call was held from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM with the purpose of discussing the Wikimania Scholarship process. The call, attended by 31 participants, commenced with an introduction by Pavan Santosh from CIS-A2K. Subsequent speakers included Wikimania lead Nadzik, who provided insights into Wikimania's significance and what the Wikimania 2024 team is seeking. Nitesh Gill shared personal Wikimania learning experiences, while Abhinav discussed the importance of crafting scholarship applications effectively, drawing from his own experience in 2017/18.
Rachit Sharma, WMF offered insights into the relatively low number of South Asian participants applying for Wikimania. The final speaker, Sailesh, shared his experiences from his initial Wikimania attendance to the present.
Following these discussions, four breakout rooms were organized, featuring speakers demonstrating how to fill out a successful scholarship form. The emphasis was on clarity, relevant links, form structure, and what aspects to prioritize. This informative session lasted for 20-25 minutes.
Towards the end of the call, A2K announced that those needing assistance or support for filling out the form, or requiring translation support for their application, could reach out by emailing nitesh@cis-india.org or pavan@cis-india.org.
