Script converter for the Konkani Wikipedia[edit]

First of all, I'm happy to to put up the very first request on this page. :)

As you must be aware, the Konkani Wikipedia is a multi-script Wikipedia, with pages in the Latin, Devanagari and Kannada scripts. There is a project to implement an automatic script converter which would allow a person to read a page written in any script, in any of the other two scripts.

I had discussed this with Tito Dutta and Rahmanuddin Shaik together, and our conclusion was that a simple way to achieve this would be to try to implement the backend behind Konkanverter in the Konkani Wikipedia. If I understand correctly, Rahmanuddin said that this backend is licenced for free reuse by the creators. If we are able to use this, then the the technical effort to be put in from our side is minimal, and the Konkani community will benefit immensely from the hard work and research done by the creators of Konkanverter for script conversion.

Rahmanuddin mentioned that the first step towards this would be to develop consensus among the Konkani Wikipedia community that the transliteration provided by Konkanverter is acceptable to them. My post regarding the script converter on the main community page received support, and from my discussions with Konknni mogi 24 and others, I know that the users who edit in the Latin and Devanagari scripts are ok with the output from Konkanverter.

Since we don't have anyone in the Konkani Wikipedia community who have the technical skills to implement this, I request you to assist us. I am ready to support you from the language side and in any other way I can.

Logo images for article count and other milestones[edit]

Hello and thank you for soliciting input.

It would be great if we can create logo images for each of the Indic language projects to celebrate important milestones. Examples include, 10,000-50,000-100,000 articles, a million edits, etc.

I suggest taking the Globe image from each project as it exists there and overlaying numbers/letters in that project's script. The community can approve text, font color of these images. If no choice is made, a default display scheme may be used. Volunteers from individual projects can "donate" any work already done towards this effort

These images can be created on-demand or in a one-time effort and stored on commons. A hybrid approach may be even better where a library of images exists and each community can either use an image from there or customize it themselves (or ask for help customizing it.)

This will result in a consistent display/presentation on each project and possibly across projects. It will help communities who don't have an artist among them.

Thank you.

Logo for WikiProject India on Wikidata[edit]

Greetings,

As a result of Asaf's successful Wikidata tour in India, it is well known that WikiProject India was created on Wikidata. In longterm, it is better to have a good logo to represent the project. So I request your team to facilitate us with the same. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talkmail) 13:37, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please ping me if there is any update. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talkmail) 13:38, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Tito (CIS-A2K): Hi Tito, thanks for replying. I am not wrong, I don't think we have separate logo for the Project, we have trasclused the text "WikiProject India" on a rotating Ashok Chakra GIF. Are you talking about that or is there any other logo I might have missed? If so, please provide me the link. If not, I'll start a discussion on the Project talk regarding what are the featured to inculcate into the logo. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talkmail) 09:01, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Krishna, no that s the background image. I saw a Wikidata logo somewhere on Commons, anyway, please see c:Category:Wikidata logos, a logo can be created as a derivative from the main Wikidata logo. For an earlier event, we created File:Wikidata Workshop South India Logo.png, something can be done like this. Anyhow, it would be great to see these discussions on the project page. Logo for VVIT WIKI Club[edit]

Greetings, we have started a WikiClub at my college in Guntur. The club has been named "VVIT WIKI Club". We've already conducted an edit-a-thon, and participated in a photo-walk. Next edit-a-thon is planned for the last week of November. To the club more formal I request CIS-A2K to help us in designing a logo that can be used in long-term. The clubs meta page can be seen at VVIT WikiConnect. We already have twenty participants it may go to 30 after another edit-a-thon. The college logo can be seen here. We'll happy to accept any kind of derivative logo with the college colour included (color code #ED7D6C). It is a student based Wiki Club. Please ping me in case of any update. --Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talkmail) 03:02, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We have contacted you over email on this. We thought it would be done during TTT, unfortunately we could not schedule a meeting with you with our graphic designer that time. Regards. -- Tito Dutta (talk) 06:00, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the support, got the email. I'll follow-up on that. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talkmail) 06:32, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help in Enabling Citoid for Marathi Wikipedia[edit]

I have been trying to check with possibilities of getting citation tool - citoid for Marathi Wikipedia. I tried hard to understand how to do that and learned there are many of the steps which only a person with strong technical knowledge and necessary admin rights can do those things. 1) The process to enable citoid includes several steps and few pre-conditions too, a) Citation templates - having standardized citation templates is the first one and important criteria so that arrays of the local templates can be matched with citoid. MW instructions recommend that we need to have at least four basic templates. (news, journal, web, book) b) Decision on the language of citations - community needs to get to the fact that such automated tools can't produce all the results in our local language, so we need to decide on the change in referencing styles(only the language of it) it would be helpful what other non-english wikis have done about this issue.(Though citoid produces local language results if the source we are citing is in the local language) c) Translations of necessary GUI's for citoid is already done and working well. (the translations were done recently on translatewiki.net) d) More information on this could be found on this. e) There is already a discussion going on village pump of mr.wiki. Where you could find what others are saying about this. f) And have already requested for help from citoid team here But there still there are many things which need to solve it at the local level and then either go with this team of citoid or finish this task on our own. Abhay Natu has extended his help on this and he has suggested the community to list the tasks needed ahead.

What we need do to get citoid now? a) Find the exact status of Marathi Wikipedia on this, whether we are on the way to get citoid at all? if Yes then b) Standardization of template data and deployment of citoid are technical tasks which we don't have right now. c) The configuration of namespaces messages d) Deployment of citoid, (or repairing of earlier deployment as Narsikar Dada has already tried to do that recently, and it needs repairing)

I guess this is what is from my side on citoid, So I am expecting that CIS-A2K will extend their technical help and can take up the task of coordinating with all of the involved "सदस्य" from Marathi wiki and others who are ready to extend their help on this and take this task ahead, I will post this same to Marathi wiki too. --Sureshkhole (talk) 06:57, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
