The Celtic Knot Conference returns in September 2024.

The deadline for submissions is July 14th at 23:59 UTC.

Formats[edit]

We are inviting applications to the programme:

  • Lightning talks – Short 10-minute presentations about anything you feel is relevant.
  • Workshops and tutorials – 50 or 110-minute sessions for group discussions and workshops, or tutorials on a particular topic such as Content Translation or Wikidata. This time includes questions from the audience.
  • Presentation – 20–25 minute presentations. This time includes questions from the audience.
  • Panel Discussion – 50-minute panel discussion to discuss a topic. Please feel free to collaborate with others to put a panel together. This time includes questions from the audience.
  • Posters – These will be printed in A0 format (84.1 x 118.9) and displayed at the conference venue with a dedicated poster session.

Themes[edit]

We encourage proposals to link to the conference themes of:

Journey Through Legacies: Tracing Celtic Wikimedia Roots
  • Discover more about the legacies of Wikimedia pioneers, delving into the insights and experiences that inform our present-day endeavours. We invite submissions that explore the historical foundations of Celtic Wikimedia projects, sharing stories and lessons learned from the past to help shape our future.
Momentum Unleashed: Overcoming Barriers, Igniting Progress
  • Discover contemporary Celtic Wikimedia initiatives as we confront barriers and progress towards our collective goals.
  • Join us as Wikimedia Community Ireland launches the toolkits developed through the WikiWomen Erasmus+ Project which empowers second-level students to research, write, and share biographies of women and gender-nonconforming individuals through their respective regional languages.
  • We welcome submissions that highlight innovative strategies, success stories, and challenges overcome in advancing Celtic language projects within the Wikimedia community.
Visions Forged: Charting Paths in Language Advocacy
  • Forge paths in language advocacy and representation within Wiki communities as we collectively sculpt a shared vision for the future of Celtic language preservation and promotion within the Wikimedia landscape.
  • We’re seeking submissions that explore best practices, research findings, and strategic insights aimed at strengthening Celtic language communities (in physical and digital spaces), providing Open Access resources, and advocating for visibility and rights on Wikimedia Projects.

Conditions[edit]

Our preference is for sessions to be delivered in person. Scholarships are available to support participation.

By submitting a proposal, you must agree that your proposal's abstract and any slides associated with it will be released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike License 4.0; and if accepted, the session will be broadcast and/or recorded and made available in audio and/or visual form under the same license.

How to apply[edit]

There are two options to submit a proposal: creating a wikipage by using the field below, or filling in this form (Google Forms). In both cases, your submission will be published on wiki.

The call for proposals is open until July 14th at 23:59 UTC.

If you encounter any issues with your application or have questions, feel free to contact Richard Nevell (WMUK) (richard.nevell(_AT_)wikimedia.org.uk).
