Central Notice admin comments[edit]

Hi @Jayanta (CIS-A2K):, With the requested languages you say "(see Discussion)". Could you supply a link please? Ciell (talk) 10:34, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,@Ciell: We are planning to conduct one another contest like this Indic Wikisource. I have announed at English Wikipedia here for your reference.Thanks. Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 18:10, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thank you. I'm specifically interested in why you would like to target all Wikimedia projects, and why you would like to also target ip-adresses. It does not look like a user-0 project to me: what is your intention with targetting ip's? Ciell (talk) 18:23, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Specially I want to target all wikimedia project (Wikipedia,Wikisource,Wikitionary,Wikiquote,Wikivoyger etc) of all Indic languages (including English) in India, Bangladesh, Srilanka for all IP user or login user.Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 18:32, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also I have announced most of all Indic language project here.Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 18:37, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the links provided.
I'd prefer to only target anonymous accounts, when there are certain goals set, for instance in a (WMF or otherwise supported) grant, of in a fundraiser. We only very rarely should target our ip's, not automatically including editathons (where you do need a certain level of experience before you can join) and extra-especially when a banner on the one project would lead them to a whole new project, which 99% of the time they have never visited before. Could you explain to why you want to target tens of thousands of ip's, and the level of support and guidance these new users would get from you? You might also want to read our banner guidelines if you have not yet read them. Ciell (talk) 13:45, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Jayanta (CIS-A2K): In case you missed my question: why do you want to target other ('all') projects, and where did you involve people from other projects in this? I only see messages to the Indic Wikisource. A different project would for instance be Wikipedia, Wikidata, Commons, or Wikibooks. Ciell (talk) 19:35, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ciell:, sorry for the late response. Our contest is rescheduled to November (01 November 2020 → 15 November 2020).Most of the cases, our 12 Indic languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu) community creat their site notice. But We want to promote/announce from other projects in the respective language.Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 15:19, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Jayanta (CIS-A2K):, no problem with the rescheduling. Do you have a link for me to a relevant discussion about this Wikisource banner, on for instance some Indic Wikipedia please? Or at least a message you posted there to inform them about your plans for a banner? Ciell (talk) 15:23, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Ciell:, could you please explain what is the meaning of Which projects will you be targeting? Ans:all projects at CentralNotice/Request/Bangla Wikipedia article contest 2020??Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 16:25, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Just for reminder, our contest will start on 1st November. Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 17:06, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Jayanta (CIS-A2K) Yes, I realise that, but the questions have been asked before in September already. Please ask the relevant communities on the projects you want to target, and in the languages you want to target. (see our goals for implementing banners) Ciell (talk) 18:55, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have announced most of all Indic language project here. I have announced all Indic Wikisource and wikipedia including English. If another contest asking for all project , you are not asking anything (event annoucement). When I ask for all project, you cannot understand. That why I am asking. What is meant for Which projects will you be targeting? Ans:all projects at CentralNotice/Request/Bangla Wikipedia article contest 2020?? Have any clarification please let me know. Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 19:36, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I want to know that, for this central notice CentralNotice/Request/Bangla Wikipedia article contest 2020, where they announce all projects OR not. What is the meaning of All projects there? Have they provided any link for that?? Have they announced in English wikipedia VP??Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 19:41, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Benoit Rochon, DerHexer, Ilario, Itzike, Mardetanha, Matiia, MartinUrbanec, NahidSultan, Romaine, Samat, Steinsplitter, Trijnstel, and Shanmugamp7Vituzzu: Could you please explain how CentralNotice/Request/Bangla Wikipedia article contest 2020 contest was passed as central notice without any clarification? When I have made for all project targets, so may question aries. I have explained what I want. Still there so issue to approved. Please expain what link and documents you need? Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 19:54, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In May, with CentralNotice/Request/Indic Wikisource Proofreadthon, you only targeted the Indic Wikisource, in 12 Indic languages. These settings CentralNotice/Request/Bangla Wikipedia article contest 2020 would not have been my choice, but okay: because people are more lenient to Wikipedia (and Commons and Wikidata nowadays), I can imagine the CN admin approved the banner. But if you would like to display a banner about Wikisource on all projects in all 12 languages, and English targetting India, Bangladesh, Srilanka.... I really need to think about this and I would like to take your reasoning into consideration. And if the community agrees, I most probably will not have any more objections.
And, for the record: people change, projects change, emotions change. To be on the safe side, it's better to ask consent every year, it's just more polite. Ciell (talk) 20:31, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have change the all target are to specific two project (Wikipedia and Wikisource). Is this sufficient for you?? Still I am confused how you approved this project?? As said CentralNotice/Request/Bangla Wikipedia article contest 2020 here Target to all project.Still today I am seeing this in Wikivoyage, wikiuniversity, wikibook etc, whenever the contest was ended but still running the banner. The proposer not send any messages to Wikivoyage, wikiuniversity, wikibook project. Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 21:44, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Jayanta (CIS-A2K): I've created a banner, the preview is here. Do you want West-Punjabi targetted as well, or only Punjabi? And since you are targetting Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well, should the banner text not mention those countries as well? I have set it for logged in accounts only.
The Bangla banner is not active anymore, but can be still preserved in our server-side cache. It depends on how often this is refreshed (on our side, not on your computer or cell phone).
@আফতাবুজ্জামান: You can translate the banner here once Jayanta says the banner is okay. Ciell (talk) 10:31, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I agree that we should mention all three countries or no country at all (no matter who organise it). I translated first line as something like "There is a proofreadthon going on". The current English message should be changed. আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 13:58, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Many many Thanks @Ciell:, the banner is ok for me. Leave the West-Punjabi. I think this not needed, it is mostly used in Pakistan. When Urdu Wikisource and West-Punjabi wikisource live, we may add Pakistan. At present India, Bangladesh & Srilanka is ok for me. Jayanta (CIS-A2K) (talk) 15:03, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Per suggestion, I removed the mentioning 'in India' from the banner text. new preview Ciell (talk) 16:00, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
