Goals

[edit]

Did you meet your goals?

General goals

[edit]
Group photo
Exchange knowledge and experiences between members of the community

There were a total of 29 events including:

For more information see the complete programme (in Italian).

Learning from experts outside the community
Outreach to the local general public

Metrics

[edit]
Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
PARTICIPATION (COMMUNITY)
35 active editors involved; 100 total attendees
70 people signed up, mostly active editors, including some who had never participated in a Wikimedia event in Italy. Also, the Wiki Loves Monuments exhibition was available to the general public at the ground level floor of Palazzo delle Albere. There was another exhibition (about cinema) at the first floor so even people not coming specifically for itWikiCon discover WLM and and Wikipedia
CONTENT
New images on Commons; new articles on Wikimedia project
429 files; 22 pages of notes were taken on etherpad (links are available in the programme); Gruppi locali di lingua italiana and Wikipassaporto (and their subpages) were created as a consequence of a discussion. 429 files were uploaded on Commons according to GLAMorous. They include photo of the conference, the venue and surroundings, and slides. For logistic reasons we were forced to renounce to the edit-a-thon.

Next steps

[edit]

Please share a brief update about the status projects, important discussions and/or capacity building that took place at the event.

itWikiCon 2017 in Trento was the first Italian WikiCon. The Italian community is now organizing itWikiCon 2018 in Como, building on the 2017 experience.

Learning

[edit]

Conferences and events do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well at the event?

A survey confirmed the general perception that participants appreciated the location, the programme and more generally the event.

  • What did not work so well?

Because of logistic reasons we had to renounce to an edit-a-thon we planned to do. There was not much outreach and media coverage (only an interview on TGR). No members of the board and of the staff of WMI were present.

  • What would you do differently next time?

The WLM exhibition was available for the general public but we did not have outreach events: they are being planned for itWikiCon 2018. Based on the feedback a small registration fee is considered acceptable and will be added. More attention will be paid to the press and media coverage.
