Project idea
[edit]What Wikimedia project(s) and specific areas will you be evaluating?
[edit]Is this project measuring a specific space on a project (e.g. deletion discussions), or the project as a whole?
Telugu Wikipedia, as a whole
Telugu Wikisource, contributing to index pages
Commons, contributing media
Describe your idea. How might it be implemented?
[edit]Provide details about the method or process of how you'll evaluate your community or collect data. Does your idea involve private or personal identifying information? Take a look at the Privacy Policy for Wikimedia’s guidelines in this area.
It will be a simple notification system, where your edited articles in your language will be notified for updating or to be in sync with other language Wikipedia edits. Mostly we may not know what the exact edited text was, but an edit done in the primary language of article will indicate to other Wikis to update it.
Are there experienced Wikimedians who can help implement this project?
[edit]If applicable, please list groups or usernames of individuals who you can work with on this project, and what kind of work they will do.
How will you know if this project is successful? What are some outcomes that you can share after the project is completed?
[edit]This is more of an idea to be posted in Wikimedia community wishlist. If one script can help editors see that the articles in their watch list are being updated in other languages, my idea is successful. This will prompt users to edit the page in their language. And if at least one more language wiki page gets edited, project's goal is complete.
How would your measurement idea help your community make better decisions?
[edit]After you are finished measuring or evaluating your Wikimedia project, how do you expect that information to be used to benefit the project?
Most artilces on Telugu Wikipedia are outdated and such notifications will trigger editors to go back to their watchlist and improve articles, keeping them updated and in sync.
Do you think you can implement this idea? What support do you need?
[edit]Do you need people with specific skills to complete this idea? Are there any financial needs for this project? If you can’t implement this project, can you scale down your project so it is doable?
Yes, I would be able to, with support from Engineering team.

[edit]- Volunteer Hi there. I happen to write in Spanish, English, German, and sometimes in other languages (French, Portuguese, Italian). So... here I am to help. Fadesga (talk) 19:10, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
Endorsements
[edit]- I like the idea of more collaboration between Wikipedias of different languages. Woscafrench (talk) 19:20, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose If it's an automatic process, then the survey list in all languages concerned expands exponentionally. One edit in a article like Donald Trump involves 100 interwiki alerts involves potentially 100 edits involves 100x100 next series of alerts and then, where does it end? --Havang(nl) (talk) 10:50, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- The idea is more about creating alert for changes in home Wikipedia of that article and where it is most edited only. --Rahmanuddin (talk) 12:33, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support A practical and somewhat obvious improvement to be made. A periodic notification could be weekly, monthly or once a year. The other-language wiki editors also need to take responsiblity to check for updates and not depend on notifications if they are sent at far-spaced intervals. This could be a bot's job. Ouranista (talk) 15:39, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support (in principle). I agree with Havang(nl) above that as described this would create an impractical amount of load on the system. However, could this idea be implemented on individual editors' Special:Watchlists, rather than at a per-article level? Especially with the nifty recent improvements. I edit articles about wine and grape varieties on English Wikipedia, which often involves translating articles (and the reference material) from other language Wikipediæ, usually French, Italian, and Spanish. I've often thought it would be nice to have a unified Watchlist across language Wikipediæ, especially now we have central authentication. Perhaps it's in the pipeline? Jonathanischoice (talk) 22:41, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- It 's the overflow of watchlistes by a bot process which has to be prevented, anyhow. I follow personal watchlistes on 5 wiki's, commons-fr-ge-en-nl, if these were unified in one watchlist showing up in all five wiki's, three of them would be overflowed by the other two, so I prefer keeping those watchlistes separate. --Havang(nl) (talk) 07:52, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- I believe that this idea will help the contributors of less popular wikipedia's to keep the content up to date in order to improve the quality of the wikipedia. Gagan.singh18 (talk) 16:26, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support, but it should be part of user Watchlists (a sort of "unified Watchlist across language Wikipediæ", I agree with Jonathanischoice, it's really a good idea) and, consequently, there should be at least these three filters: bots/no bots; which projects (e.g. I don't know Japanese or Persian, so I want to exclude them etc.); which size (I'm not interested in minor edits or small orthographic corrections). Epìdosis 21:24, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Some kind of synchronizing can be done in a controlled way by adding (next to "This is a small change" and "Watch this page") a check box "Notify other languages of this change". This could trigger a message on top of the related articles when in Edit mode, including an auto-translated version of the edit. Geke (talk) 09:55, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
