Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

There is currently no way of seeing what redlinks exist for files within a specific subject area.

When you mass upload content from an external database there can be variations between the categorisation of Wikimedia Commons and the organisation's database, in addition there can be new content added where a category does not currently exist.

Additionally, it would be useful for people with subject specific knowledge who could see which redlinks exist within a category they have knowledge of and fix or remove them.

What is your solution?[edit]

A tool to find redlink category links in a particular category (or list of categories) on Wikimedia Commons. It would have a simple user interface where people could input a specific category e.g 'images from the archive of a specific organisation' or 'Parrots' and it would show all the redlinks of files within that category so they could either be repaired or removed.

  • Looks like an extremely useful tool, that will serve to make free content far more easily discoverable. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:24, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
