Let’s Connect Peer Learning Program in Kwara

General Overview[edit]

This project represents the second phase of the Let's Connect Peer Learning Program in Kwara. This new phase of our initiative encompasses two primary objectives: firstly, to maintain ongoing connections with previous participants, and secondly, to welcome new members into our program. Drawing insights from our initial implementation, we discovered that in-person interactions significantly enhance the learning experience. Physical engagement stimulates discussions, ensuring a more robust and participatory environment. Notably, during online sessions, we observed that experienced Wikimedians tended to be more interactive, while newer editors faced challenges in active engagement without tools like Jamboard.

Addressing these challenges, we are introducing physical learning clinics to ensure the active participation of all attendees and consider their desired skills. We aim to solve the issue of limited discussion engagement and cater to participants' requests for additional skills not covered in the initial phase due to target constraints. The project focuses on providing financial and logistical support to ten active Wikimedians from Kwara State, Nigeria, who have contributed to facilitating or organizing projects on Wikimedia platforms.

Let's Connect Peer Learning Program serves as a secure space for Wikimedians to exchange and acquire various skills, including organizational, program tactics, interpersonal, and those relevant to Wikimedia projects. By participating, Wikimedians aim to align with the Movement Strategy, emphasizing knowledge-sharing, skill-building, people-centeredness, and solidarity. The program strives to cultivate a learning culture adaptable to local contexts, regional dynamics, and the diverse needs of communities, considering availability, workload, and diversity.

In an effort to eliminate participation barriers such as limited connectivity, access to devices, and time constraints, the registered participants of this project will receive a scholarship of $30. Primarily associated with the WIKIMEDIA NIGERIAN COMMUNITY and informal groups, participants will showcase the capacities of these communities that may often go unnoticed.

Finally, the project seeks to provide peer support, fostering an environment where participants feel confident and secure in sharing and acquiring knowledge. The overarching goal is to cultivate an inclusive learning community and promote active engagement in the Let's Connect Peer Learning Program.

Cluster Connections[edit]

After concluding our in-person learning clinics, the team adopted a distributed teaching method, dividing participants into three (3) groups for three (3) Cluster Connections to foster learning through empowerment. This involved each set of three sharers collaboratively working together and exchanging their skills with their respective group members. The first cluster connections for each group took place on February 4, 2024, conducted as a combined session. Zoom Breakout Rooms were utilized by each group during these sessions.

The second and third Cluster Connections also held on 11 February, 2024 and 18 February, 2024, respectively, following the same structure.

These combined sessions each lasted for 2 hours.

First Cluster Connections The session was held on the 4th of February, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm West Central African Time, in a combined session, through the use of Zoom Breakout Rooms. The combined session was facilitated by the Let's Connect Kwara team.
