The intention of this project is organizing events and activities supporting the Wikimedia movement in Egypt and people involved in this movement over the course of three months.

Please briefly describe what will be accomplished if the project is successful.

Project goal
This project has the following goals:
  1. Promoting the quality and quantity of articles on the Arabic Wikipedia.
  2. Help recruiting new volunteer editors to edit Wikipedia by supporting the Education Program and holding edit-a-thons.
  3. Help recruiting new volunteer ambassadors and professors to assign and help their students edit Wikipedia.
  4. Organizing training sessions for students and volunteers.
  5. Covering needed equipment costs for holding workshops which will support sustainability of the program in Egypt.
  6. Promoting competition between volunteers and editors.
  7. Attracting photographers to take photos and share them under free licence.


Measures of success

By the end of October 2014, it is expected to have the following results:
  1. +2000 photos uploaded to Wikimedia commons.
  2. +20 Featured photos nominated on Arabic Wikipedia.
  3. +5 Million bytes added to the Arabic Wikipedia by Egypt Education Program students during the summer course.
  4. +10 Featured articles nominated on the Arabic Wikipedia.
  5. +1000 new articles added to the Arabic Wikipedia.
  6. +200 new accounts on Wikimedia projects.

Wiki Loves Monuments

  • 2 photography trips in Cairo.
  • Advertising Campaign online and offline.
  • Photographers editing workshop (to help them upload photos and use them on Wikipedia)
  • Prize Awarding event.

User Group Coordination

  • Holding 2 meetings for user group members.
  • Assisting with transportation for members who live outside Cairo or on long distances.

How will this project support the key organizational objectives of
Increasing reach

The Education program volunteers and professors encourage new students to create user accounts and edit Wikipedia. The Wiki Loves Monuments contest will also attract new users to upload photos and will raise competition.

Participation

We will continue to recruit new editors to Wikipedia and volunteers to help organize our events and support retaining existing active ones.

This project aims at supporting the Wiki Community in Egypt which has the highest participation to the Wikimedia Projects in the region and The Egypt Education Program which has the highest success on Ar Wiki in the field of Education and Outreach.
