Our programs, approaches, and strategies at Wikimedia Bangladesh are meticulously crafted to uphold our mission of democratizing access to knowledge and fostering a culture of open educational resources. Rooted in our vision of a world where everyone can freely access and contribute to knowledge, we address several key challenges through the following strategies:
- Content Creation and Preservation: We endeavor to enrich Wikimedia platforms with comprehensive and accurate content pertaining to Bangla language, culture, and heritage. Through initiatives such as edit-a-thons, article contests, and collaborative projects, we amplify the representation of Bangladeshi topics on Wikipedia and its sister projects, ensuring the preservation and dissemination of our cultural heritage.
- Community Engagement and Capacity Building: Central to our mission is the cultivation of a vibrant and inclusive community of volunteers who are passionate about sharing knowledge. We will facilitate workshops, seminars, and training programs in collaboration with academic institutions, NGOs, and other stakeholders to empower individuals and institutions to effectively access, develop, and contribute to free educational resources.
- Outreach and Awareness: Recognizing the importance of digital literacy and the democratization of knowledge, we conduct outreach campaigns and educational activities to raise awareness about Wikimedia projects and promote the use of open educational resources. By engaging diverse communities and forging partnerships with external organizations, we strive to expand the reach and impact of our initiatives.
- Gender Gap Mitigation: In line with our commitment to inclusivity and diversity, we implement targeted initiatives to address the gender gap on Wikimedia platforms. Through mentorship programs, outreach events, and advocacy efforts, we aim to encourage more women to participate in editing and contributing to Wikimedia projects, thus enriching the diversity of content and perspectives.
- Education Programs: Education lies at the heart of our endeavors, and we seek to integrate Wikimedia projects into formal and informal learning environments. By collaborating with educational institutions and educators, we promote the use of Wikimedia resources for educational purposes and advocate for the incorporation of digital literacy and open educational practices in curricula.
Through these strategic approaches, we endeavor to realize the objectives of Wikimedia Bangladesh, as outlined in our organizational profile, and advance our collective vision of a world where access to knowledge is truly universal and equitable.

Wikimedia Bangladesh actively collaborates with both internal and external partners to fulfill its mission of preserving Bangla culture and heritage through digital media. Among our notable partners is Bangla WikiMoitree, an international network dedicated to coordinating efforts related to Bengali culture and heritage topics within the Wikimedia community. This partnership allows us to tap into a diverse pool of resources and expertise, uniting individuals and organizations with a common goal of promoting Bengali language, culture, and heritage.
Additionally, we maintain a close collaboration with the West Bengal Wikimedians User Group, which serves as another vital partner within the Bangla WikiMoitree network. Together, we pool resources, share expertise, and engage communities to achieve our shared objectives.
A prime example of our collaborative efforts is the annual international photography competition known as Wiki Loves Bangla. This competition serves as a platform to showcase and document various aspects of Bengali language, culture, and heritage through digital photography. By joining forces with our partners, we maximize community engagement, enriching the impact and reach of Wiki Loves Bangla.
Looking ahead, we aim to expand our collaborative endeavors by partnering with external organizations to address the gender gap and promote educational initiatives in Bangladesh.
