The focus of the Africa Wiki Challenge 2024 is to address the specific knowledge gaps and increase online representation. The gaps will fall on the general theme of this year’s theme which is ‘’Educate Africa: Nurturing Minds for the 21st Century’’ , more details can be found in here [1]
The main challenge is : Limited online information about Tanzanian education on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia platforms(i.e WikiCommons).
This lack of information hinders global understanding of Tanzania's educational landscape, achievements, and challenges.
Approaches:
1. The Challenge encourages Tanzanian participants to contribute their knowledge by creating or improving Wikipedia articles and media related to Tanzanian education through the existence of a contest which will be open to anyone interested and more of it can be found in here [ https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:Africa_Wiki_Challenge_2024/Participate]
2.Capacity building
Before the contest participants will be trained through and in-person workshop so as to be able to contribute to their fullest level and adhere with the contest primary goals.
By increasing the content on this topic, the Challenge strives to:
1.Educate the world: Provide a richer picture of Tanzanian education for a wider audience.
2.Empower local voices:Give Tanzanians a platform to share their experiences and perspectives.
3.Improve Wikipedia:Enhance the accuracy and comprehensiveness of educational information on Tanzania.
The main approach is to:
1.Raise awareness:Organize workshops and campaigns to inform Tanzanians about the Challenge and Wikipedia editing.
2.Encourage participation: Collaborate with local educational institutions and NGOs to involve educators, students, and the public.
3.Facilitate contribution: Offer workshops on Wikipedia editing skills and best practices, so as to ensure participants will not only contribute to creating articles but also the articles meet the best criteria to the user.
- 7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found.
