I want to minimize cases of out-of-school children and school child abduction in Nigeria by making information on school dropout, school child abduction and their consequences freely available online. Education is one of the weapons of actualizing all the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It is a tool for empowerment and a vehicle for chasing away hunger, ending poverty and creating effective citizens. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, the idea of education as an empowerment tool is not well recognized. Many children are out of school due to poverty while some are kept out of school by the fear of being abducted from school. Though the Nigerian government has been doing its best to free school children from abductors, more still needs to be done. The Nigerian government and good-spirited individuals should fortify schools by putting adequate security measures to protect school children from abductors. Schools should be made safe places where children enjoy going. Moreover, to ensure that every Nigerian child attains at least a basic education irrespective of the parents' socio-economic status, the government should go beyond free tuition fees to ensure that children enjoy school. Unfortunately, the Nigerian government may not pay the issue of school drop out the attention it desires unless the government and good spirited individuals has access to information on it. It is based on this that this proposal aims to equip educationist with the capacity to document information on school drop out in Nigeria on the English Wikimedia. The issue of school drop out in Nigeria will only end if the appropriate authorities have access to information on it. Wikimedia offers itself as a platform through which such information can be documented and accessed freely.

My main approaches to achieve these are as follows: 1. Liaise with another research group in the University (Information Literacy for Community Development research group) to document information on out of school children and school child abduction in Nigeria 2. Produce a list of articles on out of school children, school child abduction and the importance of creating safe school environment. 3. Generate published research articles on out-of-school children, school child abduction and the importance of creating a safe school environment for participants to use. 4. Organize training for new editors in the group. 5. Allocate articles to edit to participants. 6. Monitor participants' edits to ensure that they are of high

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

The planned activities are as follows: 1. Meet with the members of the two research groups (Surplus People in the Universities Research Group and Literacy for Community Development research groups to plan for the project. 2. Share roles among the would-be participants 3. Liaise with the participants to select the date and venue for training 4. Publisice the project within the university community 5. Generate topics which participants will edit and or create 6. Generate published research articles which participants will use to edit and or create articles 7. Organize physical training for new participants 8. Plan for online meetings to respond to participants' enquiries after the physical training 9. Allocate topics for participants to work on. 10. Monitor participants' edits to ensure that they are of high quality

These activities were chosen because I have used them before and they worked. I used them in 2022 when we liaised with the Association of Students with Disabilities to document information on disability issues in Nigeria. I also used them in 2023 during the deforestation in Nigeria project. I collaborated with the Department of Geography and the Institute of Climate Change Studies, energy and Environment to document information on deforestation in Nigeria on Wikipedia pages. so they are tested and trusted activities.
