Tamil Wikipedia was started in 2003 and had gradual and consistent growth over the years. As a regular practise, Tamil wikipedians contributed for improvement of existing articles, expansion of articles, curation and clean-up activities.
Starting from the year 2022, Tamil Wikipedia community is executing all these tasks in an organised way through projects. We have prioritised actions to improve the quality of articles and involving users through online drives. We observe 'Speical Month', 'Special Quarter' on a partcular topic of articles. But, only 8 to 10 members are actively participating to contribute. This may be because of not having interest or lack of understanding.
Similar to other language wikipedias, Tamil community also focusing on creating new articles rather improving existing ones which is the biggest challenge for Tamil Wikipedia. Through this event, we will try to deal with this challenge.
Approach:
[edit]- 1) Conduct an 'in-person edit-a-thon' event to bring active wikipedians together.
