Introducing Wikiquote to Hausa Communities UMYU Wiki HUb

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Local

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

To introduce the newly approved Hausa Wikiquote (on Incubator) to Hausa communities, train them how to contribute to the project i.e, the scope of Wikiquote, editing and creating articles, what to add to Wikiquote, sourcing and therefore translating some major instructional pages, and also to create a system for overseeing articles created i.e. admins, patrolers etc.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

Most Hausa Wikimedians are not aware of Wikiquote, it's scope, how to edit them, what to add to Wikiquote pages, how to source out quotes with reliable sources and thus many can differentiate it's difference from other Wikimedia sister projects. This project will thus, focus on bridging this gap. Emphasis is to create significant contributions on the Wiki project towards its final approval. Hence, to train and maintain editors that will continue contributing even after approval

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

These approaches will be achieved through the following objectives

1. Online: we will be delivering an online campaign on social media platforms, IG and Whatsapp that will create awareness on Hausa Wikiquote
2. Offline: in-person event will be organized from the state with greatest number of Hausa Wikimedians Kaduna and at the Katsina State University Fan-club
4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

Not applicable

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

I as the first Hausa Wikimedian to contribute to Wikiquote and also apply for the new language wiki on meta, I also create the page on Incubator therefore influencing other Wikimedians to contribute - I will lead the project. Other members of Umaru Musa Yar'adua Wiki Fan Club such as Al'ameen Khalid, Gwanki, Muhammad Idriss criteria will assist in making the project a success.

6. Please state if your proposal aims to work to bridge any of the identified CONTENT knowledge gaps (Knowledge Inequity)? Select up to THREE that most apply to your work.

Content Gender gap, Language, Cultural background, ethnicity, religion, racial

6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.

This project will not be limited to a specific set of gender, we will focus on adding more participants from the female gender as well. The participants will include anyone that understand Hausa regardless if it is his first language or not. It will also welcome everybody regardless of cultural background, religion etc

7. Please state if your proposal includes any of these areas or THEMATIC focus. Select up to THREE that most apply to your work and explain the rationale for identifying these themes.

Education, Diversity

8. Will your work focus on involving participants from any underrepresented communities?

Gender Identity, Digital Access

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

This project will target participants from Hausa communities, they will be reached through social media platforms and we will add them to our most active user groups on Whatsapp

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

No
12.2 How will this joint proposal allow you to have better results?
