The aim of this project is to celebrate diversity, tradition, and innovation in Africa through showcasing Nigerian cultures. This initiative involves showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of Nigeria, highlighting its diverse traditions and innovative spirit. It seeks to promote understanding and appreciation of Nigeria's heritage, encouraging active participation from individuals and communities. This project aimed to presents a valuable opportunity to fill content gaps across a range of topics concerning Nigerian cultures, traditions and innovations. By leveraging the expertise of experienced editors, we aim to expand coverage on Nigerian cultures, traditions, heritage. and traditional practices, community landscapes, and more that are currently lacking representation on Wikipedia.

We Will Creating a Community of Wikimedia Editors, Our goal is to build a local group of editors, promoting continuous participation and collaborative content development on Nigerian Customs, Diversity, Tradition. and Innovation. Our primary strategy is centered on building trust in Wikipedia and its related projects among our target audience, both locally and online. To achieve this goal, our team of seasoned Wikimedia editors will initiate comprehensive campaigns through various channels, including online platforms and offline activities. These campaigns will underscore Wikimedia's inclusive nature, welcoming individuals from diverse backgrounds into the movement.

2/ Developing Informative Flyers:

As part of these initiatives, we will create informative flyers that highlight the accessibility and openness of Wikimedia projects. These flyers will be strategically distributed to capture maximum attention within the target community. Through these efforts, we aim to dispel misconceptions and instill confidence in the Wikimedia platform.

3. Raising awareness about Wikimedia projects among participants

This aimed to prepare aspiring editors adequately, the project will prioritize arranging thorough training sessions facilitated by seasoned editors. These sessions will not only impart essential skills and knowledge but also offer guidance on overcoming potential challenges that may arise during their editing endeavors.

4. Beyond individual contributions,

The "Nigeria Unveiled: Celebrating Diversity, Tradition, and Innovation in Africa" project will encompass four sessions and events customized to engage editors in Wikimedia projects. The planned activities will proceed as outlined below:

1. Raising Awareness:

We will conduct sensitization and awareness visits to communites locations to explain the initiatives of Wikipedia and its related projects. Information about Wikipedia and its sister projects will be distributed through flyers and handbills. The communities has shown enthusiasm for the project, and we will select only 50 participants for the initiative.

2. Training:

The project will consist of a hybrid format, comprising 2 online training sessions and 2  in-person training workshops. These training sessions will be led by experienced Wikimedians and will focus on providing hands-on instruction in the following areas: foundational Wikipedia editing skills (including account creation, core policies, and general editing principles), making minor edits, and expanding articles related to Nigerian customs, traditions, and diversity.

3. First Online Session:

Introduce newly onboarded Wikimedia editors to the Wikimedia projects and their various activities. Discuss account creation and minor editing concerns in the session conducted through platforms like Zoom or Google Meet. Share the session link to encourage broader participation.

4. Second Online Session :

This session aims to actively involve new editors by offering hands-on guidance to improve their contributions on Wikipedia. Subsequent to this session, a two-week edit-a-thon will be organized to sustain editors participation.

5. Third Direct engagement:

This session will offer direct engagement with the fifty chosen participants, providing personalized guidance. Hands-On Learning: Practical sessions will be held to teach participants effective ways to enhance Wikipedia and its related projects.

6. Fourth Direct Engagement and Closing Ceremony:

Enhancing Editing Abilities: This upcoming session will serve as a training opportunity focused on refining the editing skills of both novice and experienced editors.

  • Recognition of Achievement: Participants will receive a certificate of excellence in recognition of their active involvement and valuable contributions.
  • Joining the Wikimedia Community: Participants will be introduced to the Hausa User Group, Igbo Wikimedians User Group, Fulfulde Wikipedia community User Group and granted access to join the wider Wikimedia Community, encouraging continued engagement and collaboration.

         -Context: AB-Babayo an editor of English and Hausa Wikipedia, he  has a strong track record as an active contributor to various Wikipedia projects and has been involved in a multitude of Wikimedia initiatives. Some notable projects include Wikimedia Awareness in Akko, Wikimedia Awareness in Pen Resources University, Nigerian Independence at 63, Wikiloves Afrodemic Wikimedia Awareness in Ummah College of Health Science and Technology, and the First Jewel Writing Workshop. AB-Babayo also played a crucial role in the Wikimedians Gombe Connect Campaign, where he served as the overall editor for the project's edit-a-thon.          - A participant of Igbo Wikimedians User Group, serving as a co-Founder and coordinator of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) Ig Wiki Fan Club, and also co-founder and coordinator of University of Nigeria Ig Wiki Fan Club.  Chikeme Chizurum have host events in Igbo language focusing on Wikipedia, Wiki Commons, Wiktionary, and Wikiquote, with support from the Igbo Wikimedians User Group.
        -Role: Chikeme Chizurum will serve as igbo laanguage facilitator during the eveny.

        An adept Wikimedia editor and trainer deeply committed to sharing knowledge and engaging communities. Ọmọladéabídèmí99  have been a central figure, serving as a cornerstone in numerous Wikipedia projects within Yoruba communities

            Fulani215 is a Native Fulfulde Speaker, a Wikipedia editor, a language advocacy a content creator with vast experience that recruit many editors under the canopy of Wiki for Minorities, he participate in so many Wikipedia training both physical and online, He train more than Fifty new recruit editors from Kano university of Science and Technology Wudil (KUST ) , He is among the Fulfulde team lead by Ardido Ardake In Hausa Wikimedia movement strategies in Gombe and Borno state where he train more than 20 new recruit editors, He is the Winner of Wiki love Africa 2023 organized by Fulfulde Wikipedia community User Group, a member of Nigeria indigenous language symposium 2024.

     -Role: Fulani215 will serve as facilitator in fulfulde wikipedia  and the communication officer of the project

Two volunteers from the returning editors will help in carrying out the logistic activities This seasoned and diverse team is fully prepared to guide and support the "Nigeria Unveiled: Celebrating Diversity, Tradition, and Innovation in Africa" project, guaranteeing its triumph and meaningful interaction with the intended audience.

The intended participants for this project are people from different localities, from Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba and Fulfulde communities. The project aims to gain acceptance and engagement among diverse ethnic groups by distributing flyers in their communities. Additionally, a blend of online and in-person sessions will be organized throughout the project's timeline to involve participants. To maintain ongoing involvement, a WhatsApp group led by the project coordinator will be created. Participants will be motivated to remain active in this group beyond the project's end, facilitating continued connection and follow-up.
