This activity hones in on the unique cultural heritage of Pangasinan, aiming to empower local students to become active contributors to Wikimedia projects, particularly in the Pangasinan language. It stands out as an educational initiative, offering students practical skills in research, digital storytelling, and Wikipedia editing, aligning with their academic pursuits. Furthermore, this event prioritizes community building, fostering connections among Pangasinan students and enthusiasts, and encourages collaboration. The Pangasinan Student WikiStudy Day is a six-week-long program designed to engage both experienced and new editors in improving and expanding the Pangasinan Wikipedia and Pangasinan Wiktionary. The event consists of a series of meetups, each with specific objectives and activities.

Week 1: (January 20, 2024) Old Pangasinan Editors Meetup. The inaugural week serves as a gathering of experienced Pangasinan editors to get acquainted and discuss the goals of the program. The primary activity is dedicated to enhancing the content of the Pangasinan Wikipedia, with participants reporting their contributions in a shared document.

Weeks 2-5: January 27, February 3, 10 & 17, 2024) Old Pangasinan Editors + New Editors Meetup In these weeks, the program expands to include new editors. Each week begins with introductions and a brief discussion of objectives. Subsequently, participants collaborate to improve the Pangasinan Wikipedia and Pangasinan Wiktionary, followed by reporting of their contributions.

Week 6: (February 24) Culmination Week The final week of the program is dedicated to reflection and recognition. Participants review the activity metrics and analyze group reports. The focus remains on enhancing the Pangasinan Wikipedia, Pangasinan Wiktionary, uploading in Wiki Commons and Wikivoyage. On this last week of the program includes awards and recognition for top contributors, with certificates and tokens distributed. Editors are interviewed about their experiences during the activity, emphasizing how it has aided their studies and language preservation efforts. Additionally, plans for future activities are discussed.

In summary, the Pangasinan Student WikiStudy Day spans six weeks, incorporating activities that range from building a sense of community among editors to practical editing and learning sessions. The program's core objective is to empower students and contributors to play an active role in preserving and promoting the Pangasinan language and culture on Wikimedia projects.

Learning and metrics[edit]

17. What do you hope to learn from your work in this project or proposal? (required)

As the organizer of the Pangasinan Student WikiStudy Day I have several key learning objectives and questions in mind. First, I hope to understand how effective this initiative is in fostering a sense of ownership and enthusiasm among Pangasinan students for Wikimedia projects and the preservation of our cultural heritage. I also aim to learn about the challenges and opportunities associated with language revitalization efforts through Wikipedia and Wiktionary in a regional context.

Additionally, I'm interested in the educational impact of this program. I want to know how students perceive the use of Wikimedia projects as study aids and how their research and digital literacy skills are enhanced through their participation. Furthermore, I hope to gather insights into the broader implications of such initiatives for regional language preservation and the potential for building a sustainable local Wikimedia community.

In essence, I see this project as an opportunity to learn about the effectiveness of educational outreach efforts, the engagement of students in language revitalization, and the long-term prospects for Wikimedia projects in regional contexts like Pangasinan. Ultimately, my goal is to use these insights to refine and improve similar initiatives in the future, contributing to the continued growth of Wikimedia and the preservation of cultural and linguistic diversity.
