6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The change we are attempting to bring is panoramic images to Wikimedia pages that lack panoramic images. We have identified some articles in Wikipedia that require panoramic images; most images in Nigerian-related articles lack panoramic images; this project seeks to capture places, buildings, landmarks, institutions, public places, and other places whose articles exist in Wikipedia but lack panoramic images; the change is to provide them with panoramic images. Most other countries' Wikipedia articles include panoramic images, but Nigeria has fewer panoramic images in nearly 90% of Nigerian-related articles. Please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medina#The_Prophet's_Mosque_(al-Masjid_an-Nabawi) for an example of the panoramic image used in this article. Also, see a sample of the panoramic images we uploaded and linked to in the article Murtala Muhammad Square Kaduna. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murtala_Square Furthermore, we created a category where panoramic images will be uploaded here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Nigerian_Panorama_Images. In the above category, there are fewer panoramic images for Nigerian-related articles. Panoramic usage; according to the policy and guidelines of images like panoramic images on Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_use_policy. Panoramic is a type of image that is completely different from other images; each article requires a single panoramic image as well as other images to support it; panoramic images are typically used at the bottom of each article, usually in the second to last section. The panoramic photo walk will include Wikimedia photographers capturing places and landmarks, and training will be scheduled to teach participants how to contribute with panoramic images in Wikimedia, including uploading the images and linking them to the appropriate pages.

Panoramic photography is a unique method of capturing pictures and images of a wide range of scenes. The size of the images typically appears to be three to seven times wider in length than the width of the image, with sizes ranging from 600 x 100 pixels to any suitable size depending on the scene you covered with your device to capture panorama images. The most common panorama size is 799 x 133 pixels, though other sizes vary depending on the scene covered. Challenges and problems trying to solve The issue we are attempting to address is the lack of panoramic images in Nigerian articles, with fewer and insufficient Wikimedians with photography capturing skills to provide the panoramic images. Here is a list of articles that we wanted to include panorama images in.https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Panorama_Images_Photowalking_Articles

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

In this project, we planned to collaborate with existing photographers with whom we had previously collaborated in 2022 during the photowalk in five Hausa states, which captured many locations in Northern Nigeria. The majority of the photographers are volunteers and Wimimedians who help with image uploading. Furthermore, following the Photowalk, training will be held twice, once online and once in person, to highlight the importance of panoramic images in Wikimedia, with participants learning about licenses, uploading, panoramic guidelines, and Wikimedia policies governing image upload and linking.

8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.

We would follow up with the participants as we usually do in the previous programs through our joint WhatsApp group and email address.
