The project aims to bring about a significant change in the representation of Tanzania on the Wikivoyage platform. This will not only enhance the global visibility of Tanzania’s rich cultural heritage and diverse geography but also promote tourism and cultural exchange, thereby contributing positively to the local economy and global understanding.

The idea for the “Tanzania: A Wiki Travel Diary” project was discussed extensively with two Wikimedia community members in Tanzanian (Wikimedians of Arusha and Tanzania University Students Wikimedians) and other non-wiki participants. The discussions took place during in-person meetings, which allowed for a more interactive and collaborative exchange of ideas.
During these discussions, community members had the opportunity to add their inputs and suggestions to the initial idea. They also proposed changes to the project’s focus. The initial idea was to work on Wikipedia, but after considering the unique needs of our community and the potential impact of the project, the community collectively decided to shift the focus to Wikivoyage.
These in-person meetings were instrumental in shaping the project proposal and ensuring that it aligns with the needs and interests of our community.
