6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The change that we are trying to bring about is the creation of a Wikipedia subdomain in the Efik language through the Wikimedia Incubator by creating more contents in the incubator and recruiting more efik speaking contributors. This is important to preserve and promote the Efik language and culture, which is spoken by over one million people in Nigeria and Cameroon. By creating a Wikipedia subdomain in the Efik language, we aim to provide access to information for Efik speakers, document important cultural and historical events, and support greater visibility and recognition of the Efik people and their language. Our main approaches and strategies to achieve these changes include: (1) community engagement, (2) content creation, (3) editing and reviewing. We believe that these approaches will be effective because they rely on collaboration and partnership with Efik speakers and cultural experts and provide opportunities for self-determination and ownership over the creation and dissemination of knowledge. We also believe that by starting with the Wikimedia Incubator platform, we can support the development of a sustainable and independent Efik Wikipedia community.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

Our activities will include:

  1. Day1: organizing community meetings and workshops to engage Efik speakers and cultural experts in the content creation process,
  2. Day 2 and 3: developing and translating core articles in the Efik language to serve as a foundation for further content development,
  3. Day 4: creating new articles and expanding existing ones through editing and reviewing the articles created for clean-up.

We will also provide training and support to participants to enhance their skills and knowledge in content creation and translation.
