The Holistic objective of Wiki Loves Libraries Nigeria is to contribute to the enrichment of Wikipedia by systematically and comprehensively documenting information related to Nigerian Libraries, Library Associations, and notable Librarians. This initiative aligns with the Wikimedia Foundation's mission to empower and engage people around the world through free access to knowledge. Specifically, the proposed project aims to achieve the following:

1. Enhance the quality and quantity of Wikipedia articles pertaining to Nigerian Libraries, Library Associations, and notable Librarians, ensuring that accurate and up-to-date information is readily available to a global audience.

2. Raise more awareness and visibility of Nigerian Libraries on a global scale, showcasing their significance, achievements, and contributions to the cultural and educational landscape.

3. Foster collaboration among Librarians, Library students and library organizations, This collaboration will contribute to the collective effort of knowledge dissemination and preservation.

4. Address the digital divide by actively engaging in virtual initiatives that make information about Nigerian Libraries easily accessible to individuals regardless of geographical location.

The following are the approaches to achieve it :

Recruiting 15 new and 25 existing editors from Library schools, Library associations, and all types of libraries in Nigeria to allow all representatives from all identified areas for improvement to participate in this project.

Increasing more awareness of Wikimedia projects, such as wikipedia, wikidata and wiki commons to the librarians and library students

Training participants on how to contribute to wikipedia which will focus on; creating Wikipedia accounts, understanding the core content policies, understanding the general editing principles, performing minor edits, creating categories, expanding articles about Libraries and Librarians in Nigeria, and creating articles using article creation Wizard on Wikipedia.

Train participants on how to create and improve items about Libraries, Library associations, and notable Librarians in Nigeria on Wikidata.

Train participants on how to upload media files on the Wikimedia Commons, train them on the various licensing available on Wikimedia commons and teach them on how to add categories to their media files.

Use outreach dashboard, hashtag tools, and article listing methods to track editors' contributions and also provide one on one support for editors.

Giving out gift vouchers to the top 7 contributors including 2 new editors as incentives to motivate them at the end of the campaign.

The second implementation of the WikiLovesLibrariesNigeria campaign will run for a period of 5 weeks to create more awareness, introduce, train, improve articles/items and upload pictures on libraries and Librarians on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikicommons. These strategies that will be adopted in carrying out the project will include: One week of online awareness about the campaign on various social media platforms. The second week there will be two (2) days of an in-person (physical) workshop for chartered practicing librarians in the different types of Libraries, Library associations, and Library science students in Nigeria. The third to fifth week there will be series of online follow-up training during the campaign to properly equip them with needed skills on how to edit on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and WikiCommons.

I have a team of four (4) active Wikimedians (including myself), that will ensure the diligent implementation of this program,We are:


(User)Linason Blessing (Project Lead): She led the Wikipedia awareness for Library and Information Science Students in Nigeria and she is a certified Librarian of the Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) she was a facilitator for the first Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom in Nigeria. She is a Wikibrarian,she has also participated in various Wikimedia projects such as WikiLoveAfrica, WPWP, Wikidata (Media personalities in Nigeria), Winner of WPWP Kwara and Wikidata Media personality in Nigeria, WikiGLAM Awareness for Libraries and Librarians in Kwara, Wikidata for Libraries and Librarians in Nigeria, 1lib1ref 2022 Kwara, etc. She is the Co-Founder of the Kwara State University Fan Club.


User:Bukky658: (Facilitator): She is a certified Librarian of the Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), she is the founder of the initiative WikiLovesLibraries, She is the first Certified Trainer of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program in Nigeria, a certified Content Campaign Organiser focused on Climate Change and Sustainability. She has led several projects such as Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Kwara, Nigeria for teachers and Students, Wiki Climate Campus Tour Nigeria 2023, Wiki-cred Bootcamp for information professionals, WikiLovesLibrariesNigeria, 1Lib1Ref Kwara 2022, WikiGLAM Awareness for Librarians in Kwara State, and Wikidata for Libraries and notable Librarians in Kwara State among others, whilst co-organising several Wikimedia projects related to SDGs and other topics of impact. She founded the Wikimedia Fan Club at Kwara State University, Malete, Nigeria.


(User)Ugwulebo (Facilitator):is a librarian, researcher and the co-founder of the Port Harcourt Wikimedia Hub. He is an experienced Wikimedian who has organized several Wikimedia projects in Nigeria. He will facilitate this project. He has also been involved in other climate related projects in Nigeria and beyond.


(User) Olani Olabimpe (Advisor and resource person)- Wikimedian with over 30 years of experience as a library administrator and director at the National Library of Nigeria Kwara State Branch. She is also the chairman of the Nigerian Library Association Kwara State chapter. She has also participated in competitions and campaigns such as 1Lib1Ref2020, WikiAflib 1Lib1Ref 2021, and local in-person meetup Wikimania for the Wikimedians of Sustainable Development in Nigeria 2022.

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

This campaign is targeted at the Librarians and Students of Library and Information Science in Nigeria. There will be online awareness for a week about the campaign via the official handles of the campaign.

The call for participation will be done across diverse social media platforms through the utilization of electronic posters and banners. All prospective participants will receive an online form, facilitating the collection of their data for documentation.

I will be actively participating in the project, together with my teammates, in order to facilitate the training and ensure that participants understand the process and way of contributing to Wikipedia and its sister projects, Wikidata and WikiCommons.

Also, the training is set to have 2 physical and online training/ Edithatons to ensure that editors are properly guided on how to bridge the knowledge and content gap across various Wikimedia projects during the editing contest.

In order to guarantee the project's sustanability , Following the events, attendees will be invited to join the various Wikimedia user groups and the Wikibrarian group, which will keep them informed and promote further librarian participation in wiki activities.

This project will involve youths and we will follow the Wikimedia Youth Safety Policy stated here (https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Friendly_space_policy#Youth_Safety) to ensure that every participant is safe and well cared for he friendly policy will be read to all the participants to be aware of the policy and there will be emergency hotline available 24 hours for all participants during the session.

Wiki Loves Libraries Nigeria project will offer a rich learning experience across various dimensions. Here are some aspects i hope to learn from this project:

Working with a diverse group of editors, including new and existing ones, from different library schools, associations, and types of libraries can provide insights into community dynamics and effective collaboration. Learning how to foster a sense of shared purpose and engagement among participants is a valuable skill. Through several training sessions and practical editing tasks, I hope to effectively improve content gaps on Wikipedia and its sister's project.

And we hope the following questions are answered after completing the project:
