Wiki Loves Women SheSaid campaign 2024 in Rwanda aims to break down barriers, change perceptions, and foster a more equitable digital environment. This will provide women in sectors like Agriculture, Banking, Healthcare, Politics, Entertainment, Sports, and other sectors, with the tools, resources, and opportunities for digital presence. We envision a future where women's voices are amplified, their contributions are valued, and their presence in the digital landscape is undeniable, especially by preserving their notable quote's visibility on Wikiquote.

According to statistics, Rwandan women's coverage is still low in different sectors; in the journalism sector, they have increased by only 24.8%, and in the business sector, they are 33%, as this campaign will work on creating the visibility of women by documenting their notable quotes; this will facilitate the empowering and inspiring of the future generations. This initiative will support the UN's SDG 5 Gender Equality by achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls as a measure to support the 2030 Wikimedia movement strategy by working on the growth of the coverage concerning women's visibility online.

We are organizing an outreach activity to bring together members from the African Leadership University, the University of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing, the National Youth Council, and Women's institutions for a panel discussion. During this event, we will teach them how to contribute to different projects on Wikimedia, specifically focusing on Wikiquote, in order to retain active and willing contributors. This will be our first in-person capacity-building session where we will introduce the concept of edit-a-thons.

Throughout the campaign, we will conduct four online capacity-building sessions to help participants provide high-quality data and enhance their ability to interact effectively with Wikiquote, ultimately retaining active contributors who will help fill the knowledge gap on the platform.

We will also organize a physical meetup to celebrate the success of the project. At this event, as we conclude the edit-a-thon, we will recognize the top 5 contributors and provide them with award prizes in the form of voucher gift cards.

Learning and metrics

[edit]
17. What do you hope to learn from your work in this project or proposal? (required)

I anticipate gaining valuable insights into the efficacy of our multi-channel outreach strategy in engaging women and Wikimedia volunteers. I look forward to understanding which aspects of the #SheSaid campaigns resonate most with participants and how our community engagement efforts influence retention rates among new participants. Additionally, I hope to explore the correlation between aligned project activities and increased collaboration within the community.

As a leader of a gender gap initiative in the Wikimedia network, I expect to acquire a broad range of skills. I also expect to expand my professional network, successfully recruit, train, and build a team of new editors in my local area, with plans for ongoing follow-up.
