1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Climate Change and environmental issues have remained among the most discussed topics in recent times and has continued to attract global attention. The continuous increase in the earth`s temperature, otherwise referred to as Global Warming, is having deadly effect on our environment today and by implication, affecting both sea and land creatures, including humans. Among the effect of climate change in our society today is increased droughts, hotter temperature, increased wildfire, flooding in some areas, crop and infrastructure failure, direct harm to health and safety etc. In fact, the World Health Organization in 2021 described Climate Change as the single biggest health threat facing humanity. There is therefore an urgent need for individuals, organizations and government agency to take action to ensure a greener and sustainable environment. In order help advance a healthy environment, individuals and organization must have a clear awareness and knowledge of these environmental issues and must understand their responsibilities in actualizing a healthy environment. As observed by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, environmental education and climate change education are key strategies to achieving a healthy environment. To this end, we would like to extend our Wiki for Climate and Environmental literacy campaign to cover two neighouring and oil producing states in Nigeria – Bayelsa and Delta States. The goal is to help advance a healthy environment in Nigeria by training selected undergraduate students on issues relating Climate Change, Carbon literacy, Ecological literacy and environmental literacy using Wikipedia, so as to help promote green economy and ensure sustainable development in Nigeria. In addition, this project will help fill the Wikipedia content gap around environmental and climate change, with specific focus on local content.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

The main approach or strategies to achieve the changes discussed in this project is to hold an awareness and sensitization campaigns in Bayelsa and Delta States of Nigeria to enlighten citizens on Climate Change and other environmental issues, including their responsibilities in addressing the menace. We will equally hold climate change education and training with undergraduate students in both states, and they will in turn be expected to train other students and youths so as to help achieve a sustainable environment. We strongly believe this will work has several studies have attributed high level of environmental literacy to both formal and informal environmental education. Given that there is limited opportunity for Climate Change and environmental education in Nigeria, this project will help train youths and raise environmental champions in Nigeria. It is proposed that atleast 80 undergraduate students (40 each from University of Delta, Agbor, Delta State and Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State) will be trained through this project. In addition, the project will also involve Wikipedia training and edit-a-thon, where the selected undergraduates for this project will be taught on how to contribute content on Wikipedia and sisters projects. The project will be rounded up with an edit-a-thon focus on closing the local content gap on Climate Change and other environmental issues.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

1. Awareness and sensitization campaigns about Climate change and environmental issues. We will also carry out an awareness campaign on Wikipedia project editing among undergraduates in the two selected higher institutions in the State. This will enable us to raise climate change champions who are skilled in using Wikimedia projects to address climate change and environmental issues so as to achieve sustainable development in Nigeria.

2. We will organize two in-person events per institution followed by virtual sessions on Zoom. These events will consist of Wikipedia Training; Edit-a-thon; climate change and environmental education.
3. We will create an outreachdashboard where we will assign articles to participants and also monitor their activities.
4. We will create a separate Whatsapp group where participants will be mentored after the events. This initiative will help participants to solidify their knowledge through knowledge sharing and collaboration. Also, interested participants will be added to the respective Wikimedia Communities.
5. We will connect participants to sustainable development groups in the country that will help them amplify their knowledge as Climate and environmental Champions. If need be, they will equally be connected to the existing Language Wikimedia communities (Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba) where they can better develop their Wiki Skills and promote climate change and environmental articles in local languages.
4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.
