1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

We intend to organize a meetup in celebration of Wikidata’s 10th birthday. This is with the goal of encouraging and sharing knowledge about wikidata among existing and new editors. Compared to Wikipedia, Wikidata is not widely known and only a few editors really get a hang of what it is and how it could be used, especially in the area of research. Following the above, our ultimate goal is to:

1. Create awareness about Wikidata and its tools
2. Recruit new editors for the various Wikimedia projects
3. Increase skills for existing editors
3. To promote community interaction and Networking
2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

Through this project, we expect to:

1. Build the capacity of both old and new volunteers by introducing participants to the Wikidata query service (SPARQL) and lexemes. Most contributions to Wikidata have been the creation of items and the addition of statements. Not much has been done in the area of the use of wikidata’s data. In addition to the above, there are several ways of learning. We believe a live demonstration will go a long way of meeting the learning needs of participants.
2. Create and Improve existing items. Most items on Senior High Schools in Ghana have just one statement or do not exist on Wikidata. We therefore intend to add the following Wikidata statements to Ghanaian public schools.

P:31 P:17 P:131 P:159 P:137

3.Celebrate Wikidata’s Tenth Birthday
3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

Wikidata's Tenth Birthday Wikidata's tenth birthday falls on Saturday, October 29, 2022. We will therefore host a meetup in celebration of the birthday. There are at least four different Wikimedia communities in Ghana; we will invite all the groups to join us. We will use the opportunity to introduce participants to the Wikidata query service and Wikidata quick statements.

Edit-a-thon challenge Prior to the birthday celebration, we will launch a Five-day Wikidata edit-a-thon challenge for participants to create and update Wikidata items for Ghanaian public senior high schools. All participants will receive 'Wikidata 8th birthday' branded T-shirts, and the top 3 contributors will win MIFIs.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

Not applicable

8. Will your work focus on involving participants from any underrepresented communities?

Socioeconomic status

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

There are about four communities in Ghana, We intend to invite these communities to partake in the celebration and the editathon challenge. We also intend to involve our partner organizations (Nubuke Foundation, Accra Archive, Ghana Library Authority (Effutu Municipality),Library and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research – Ghana). We believe this will be a motivating factor to keep both old and new volunteers connected and encourage learning and sharing. For new editors present, we would introduce them to the communities present, share other resources, and keep them updated on events and campaigns going on in the movement.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

Friendly Space Policy We will abide by the Wikimedia friendly space policy during the event as organizers. We will also explain this to participants during the launch of the celebration and also before the birthday meet up.
