6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

Recent findings have shown that a significant number of those working in academic institutions are reluctant to accept Wikimedia references when guiding student research projects or grading their papers. Their scepticism stems from the idea that Wikimedia is a public platform where anyone can add content without careful review, making its sources suspect. Furthermore, many students are still ignorant of the priceless potential that learning how to edit Wikimedia articles presents for enhancing their digital literacy, developing their research skills, sharpening their critical thinking, and discovering new knowledge outside of the realm of traditional academic activities.

To address these concerns and realise Wikimedia's enormous potential, I propose an instructive and empowering effort aiming at sensitising and teaching the academic community of City College of Health Sciences and Technology Zaria. This project will provide them with the necessary knowledge to properly use Wikimedia's huge archive of articles for their research work, allowing them to produce valid citations to these articles. Furthermore, this project will teach students and staffs how to navigate Wikimedia and other related platforms, making it easier for them to search, access, retrieve, understand, and monitor information.

The following programme goals will be attained and maintained as a result of my active participation in the college:

1. Introduce and raise awareness among City College of Health Sciences and Technology's esteemed staff and students about the numerous benefits of using Wikimedia and its sister projects, such as Wikipedia, Wikibooks, and Wikidata, as invaluable tools for teaching, learning, and research. They will have unrivalled access to a variety of information by embracing these platforms, while also learning to assess and produce new knowledge.
2. Encourage a paradigm shift in the academic community, replacing scepticism about Wikimedia sources with a willingness to allow students to credit Wikipedia sources. This shift in viewpoint would broaden their views and help students to tap into the vast knowledge available on Wikimedia while appropriately crediting it in their academic endeavours.
3. Provide extensive training sessions to both staff and students, preparing them to edit Wikimedia articles and add credible sources. We empower people to actively participate in the creation and dissemination of reliable and correct information by allowing them to contribute to this recognised platform.
4. Encourage motivated individuals in the academic community to actively connect with Wikimedia and contribute to its growth by facilitating the recruitment of 25 new editors. This project will increase the pool of competent contributors, enriching the platform with varied viewpoints and promoting a collaborative and continuous improvement culture.
7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

1. A comprehensive two-day training programme will be conducted for staff and students to provide them with the knowledge required to create Wikimedia accounts, effectively search for articles requiring citations, and learn various editing techniques to improve Wikipedia articles.

2. In combination with the in-house training, a one-day awareness workshop will be held at the school, with both staff and students invited to attend. This event will serve to educate the broader academic community about the project and its goals.
3. The first day of training will emphasise the necessity of learning Wikimedia editing skills and the numerous benefits they provide, such as improved digital literacy, research capacities, critical thinking, and so on. This session will focus on students and staffs of City College of Health Sciences and Technology, Zaria.
4. The second day of the training will be dedicated to the staff and students of the School Of Environmental Health Sciences. It will emphasize the significance of possessing Wikipedia editing knowledge, highlighting its potential to improve digital literacy, research skills, critical thinking, and other relevant competencies.
5. Following the two-day in-person training, there will be a two-day online training programme. This online component will ensure that participants continue to have access to excellent resources and can advance their Wikimedia editing skills at their own pace.
6. The next day, a three-hour edit-a-thon will be held, allowing participants to put their newly acquired expertise to use. Participants who display remarkable participation and effort will be recognised and awarded during this interactive session, which will provide an opportunity for practical application. Certificates will also be given to all participants to recognise their active participation in the initiative.
