Purdah practice had been a norm of the indigenous people of Northern Nigeria specifically North-eastern part of the country. This aged long practice affects the cultural, socio-economic and educational activities of the old and young peoples in the region as manifested in the case of Unity College Damaturu. Unity College Damaturu is a historic single female gender institution in the region located at the central metropolitan city of Damaturu the capital of Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria. The college is well known over several decades to have produced notable personalities and important figures within the region and the country at large among which are female Professors, Wives of serving and former Governors, Federal lawmakers, Female Ministers, LGA Chairpersons, Permanent Secretaries, and heads of government Agencies and Parastatals. Yet, upon this aged long years of existence, the college which operates on exchange system that housed several students from diverse backgrounds, LGAs, and states of the federation has never witnessed any Wikimedia awareness. So this project would serve as a channel by which Wikimedia projects would be brought to the knowledge of the college students, teachers and the entire community at large. It would be an avenue for the organizer and the team of experienced facilitators of the project to harvest from a pool of vibrant females students and teachers, new sets of volunteer editors who would edits and contributes contents to Wikipedia and its sister projects for a progressive and sustainable movement of the Wikimedia activities in the region.

I also had audience with 3 head of departments (Science &Technology, Arts/History and English departments) who all happened to be female staff of the college and they agreed to work with us on implementing the planned project activities. I will organise training workshops to keep the participants a brace and reshaping their minds, ideas and experiences already gained through a collaborative team work with the assistance of other experienced facilitators for them to acquire more knowledge and skills. We will conduct Editathon (hands-on-keyboard) training for both the newly recruited editors and returning participants to quickly learn to work and contribute contents to Wikipedia and its sister projects. Photowalk would follow-up after the 3 days training to capture educational institutions and other related establishment within the environment.
