In recent observations, it has become evident that a significant number of individuals within academic institutions are reluctant to accept references from Wikimedia sources when supervising research work or evaluating student assignments. Their skepticism arises from the perception that Wikimedia is an open platform where anyone can contribute information without rigorous verification, thus rendering its sources unreliable. Furthermore, many students remain unaware of the invaluable opportunities for digital literacy enhancement, research skill development, critical thinking honing, and exploring new knowledge beyond conventional academic activities that lie in acquiring knowledge of editing Wikimedia articles.

To address these concerns and unlock the immense potential offered by Wikimedia, I propose an enlightening and empowering project aimed at sensitizing and training the Academic Institution of Federal Cooperative College Kaduna .This endeavor will equip them with the essential know-how to effectively utilize the vast repository of articles on Wikimedia for their research work, enabling them to provide reliable citations to these articles. Additionally, this project will empower students and staff to adeptly navigate Wikimedia and other associated platforms, thereby facilitating their ability to search, access, retrieve, interpret, and monitor information with ease.

With my active involvement in the university, the following program goals will be achieved and sustained:

1. Introduce and create awareness among the esteemed staff and students of Federal Cooperative College with regarding the myriad benefits of utilizing Wikimedia and its sister projects, such as Wikicommons and Wikidata, as invaluable tools for teaching, learning, and research purposes. By embracing these platforms, they will gain unparalleled access to a wealth of information while also learning to evaluate and create new knowledge.2. Foster a transformative mindset shift within the academic community, replacing their skepticism towards Wikimedia sources with a willingness to allow students to cite Wikipedia sources. This change in perspective will broaden their horizons and enable students to harness the comprehensive knowledge available on Wikimedia while citing it appropriately in their academic endeavors.3. Provide comprehensive training sessions to both staff and students, equipping them with the necessary skills to edit Wikimedia articles and add reliable citations. By enabling them to contribute to this esteemed platform, we empower them to actively participate in the creation and dissemination of reliable and accurate information.4. Facilitate the recruitment of 50 new editors, encouraging enthusiastic individuals within the academic community to actively engage with Wikimedia and contribute to its growth. This initiative will strengthen the pool of knowledgeable contributors, enriching the platform with diverse perspectives and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
