Grant Proposal[edit]

M. Please state the title of your proposal. This will also be the Meta-Wiki page title.

Wikimedia is a treasure of knowledge for sharing social, educational and cultural understanding between northern Nigeria and the Niger republic.

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

International

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

The Niger Republic is the next closest country where the project would reach. The people in northern Nigeria and the Niger Republic share the same history and cultural understanding. Yet, they are not cognizant of this heritage. The highest percentage in northern Nigeria and the Niger republic do not know they can use Wikimedia to publish and research their heritage.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

. I will adopt some strategies to achieve these goals. First, I would create a special one-hour radio program to air on two popular radio stations in Kano, Nigeria, and the other radio in Niamey, Niger republic capital. The first radio station is in Kano, northern Nigeria's commercial and economic city. It is a radio station with a long-range that can be heard across the northern region. Secondly, there is another one in Niamey, the Niger Republic capital. It has the same long range as that in Nigeria.

I would create a social media page, mostly on Facebook. The amount of information posted would always increase to reach the highest number of people across the target range.

Thirdly, I would create a group and name it NIGERIA-NIGER WIKIMEDIA.FORUM. The members would come across northern Nigeria and Niger republic. It would also contain both males and females.

I would organize a one-day show, which would gather members to discuss various issues regarding the Nigeria-Niger Wikimedia Forum, the mission and the vision, and the processes through which to explore ways toward achieving our objectives. The meeting will be held in Kano, Nigeria. And that would be as an inaugural of the forum during which some Executive members would be elected and sworn in.

Fourthly, the executive would travel to Niamey Niger's capital to meet other members. We would elect other officials who would jointly run the forum among them.

These moves would bring about change due to a lack of wider awareness of Wikimedia in northern Nigeria and some parts of the Niger republic. It is very important to take these actions to counter the challenges of social media competitiveness

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

. WHY IS THE PROPOSAL VERY IMPORTANT?

1. Most of the target people for the project are in the northern part of Nigeria and the Nigerien republic. They include young people of the opposite sexes. Mostly they are from tertiary institutions. Only fewer are older. Unfortunately, many of these generations are not familiar with the development of WIKIMEDIA. They opt for other sources to find educational materials in various fields.

However, the proposed project if implemented would bring about a wider change and bring the greatest awareness about WIKIMEDIA in the nook and crannies of both places. It would also bridge the gap of lack of absolute knowledge about WIKIMEDIA as a tool of research and an avenue to insert various forms of positive knowledge into different languages for the benefit of everyone.

THE APPROACHES TO ACHIEVING THESE GOALS.

1. A comprehensive radio program, which will air both in northern Nigeria and the Nigerien Republic, would be the greatest approach toward achieving the goals.
2. The creation of the NIGERIA-NIGER-WIKIMEDIA FORUM, is another step to ensuring the goals are achieved successfully/
3. Another advantage would be a formidable social media group representing the forum for members and all other people around the target areas.
4. The organized conference to be held in both Kano, Nigeria and Niamey for the members of the forum will also serve as another limestone for the goals to come to being.

. These are the key categories that would be explored. for ensuring that the targets of the projects are duly successfully. Other subcategories would also follow up.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

RADIO PROGRAM The radio program is an hour live show captioned Wikimedia as a treasure for knowledge. Do you know?

The program will be anchored in the Hausa language. Because the predominant in northern Nigeria and Niger are hearing the language. It would contain three features
1. The overview of Wikimedia explains the different functions of Wikimedia and its advantages for knowledge seekers, researchers and educationalists who are zealous to share their knowledge on the platform.

Second, the program would describe Wikimedia as a tool for sharing social, educational and cultural understanding between northern Nigeria and the Niger republic.

2. The third segment would open an avenue for listeners to phone in and express their fresh experience with Wikimedia and their willingness to join the Nigeria-Niger Wikimedia Forum.
3. Fourth is the last segment of the program. It will entail a simple contest for the listeners to respond to certain questions over what they listen to in the program. The best respondents will win some tokens of gift on behalf of Wikimedia, and they will be invited to attend the mini-Wikimedia conference for the inauguration of the Nigeria-Niger Wikimedia Forum. This event will be held in two different locations. Nigeria and Niamey Niger republics in the same concept.

THE NIGERIA-NIGER WIKIMEDIA FORUM CONFERENCE During the conference, which will be held in Niamey, Niger capital, with both Nigeria and Niger contingents, participants will additionally learn about Wikimedia. It is an expansion of what will be presented on the radio show. Also, there will be an exchange of views on how to use Wikimedia as a primary source for publications and research on intercultural relations between Nigeria and the Niger Republic. It will also serve as a medium to bring out strategies and models through which the Forum would continue to last longer and yield a fruitful result. Social media activity is also another way that will be explored.

The target participants include students of all levels of education and their teachers. They would come from two different communities in different countries. The first segment would come from northern Nigeria, specifically targeting Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa and Katsina states respectively. However, Kano is the commercial centre of northern Nigeria, and that would be the centre where they will converge. The second community comes from the Niger republic in neighboring Nigeria. They would come from Niamey the country’s capital. Others would be drawn from Dosso, Kwanni, and Maradi. RADIO AND SOCIAL MEDIA. The participants would be engaged before the activities through the special program which would be airing for some time before the conference. Additionally, social media would play a vital role in which significant information would be posted to reawaken the participants and invigorate them before the conference.

During the activities, participants would be engaged with motivational lectures about the importance of joining the Wikimedia world, with the benefits they would have after joining. There would be entertainment, refreshment, and a special quiz for token gifts. Meanwhile, after the activities, and the inaugural of the Nigeria-Niger Wikimedia Forum, there these ways to continue following up with the participants.

1. Monthly General Zoom meeting for members in both Nigeria and Niger republic.
2. Quarterly official meeting for officials in both countries.
3. WhatsApp group engagements are another way of following up.

These are few among other ways to retain the participants after the official activities.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

These ways include the radio program which would come with wider concepts to start equipping the participants Secondly, the conference is another way to achieve such an objective. Thirdly, the participants from the two countries would have an equal share in running the affairs of the forum.
